For most of you out there, the response would be, of course he is ready! There is more to the story. He has Down syndrome. When he was born, doctors told me he would have to be institutionalized, he would only have the mental capacity of a four year old and many other depressing “realities”. I have yearly goals that I breakdown into quarterly and monthly and weekly goals. The shorter term weekly goals help me to reach my longer term goals. Do I accomplish 100% of my goals? Almost never. It’s not about making everyone feel like they are a winner. I believe that when kids make that extra effort to join a team, go to practice, play the game win or lose, THAT makes them a winner.
