I’m going to stick with my original definition. A few weeks after that, I tried running again. Slowly. Oh, so slowly. If my pain was a fight-back-the-tears 9 before, it was then more like a don’t-ever-let-them-see-you-sweat 4. Not perfect, but measurably better. Only you know how much pain you can bear and still live the life you want.

The House of Merth: October 2010
http://houseofmerth.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
The House of Merth. Friday, October 15, 2010. I've been thinking a lot lately about the "classics".those books that you "should" have read, but never actually got around to. As an English major, I read a lot in school (although, oddly, I think I read more of the classics in high school than I did in college), but in a lot ways, I've always been more drawn to the current best sellers than the tried-and-true cannon. To my reading list. The Catcher in the Rye. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Books Rea...

The House of Merth. Friday, August 20, 2010. Rubber Ducky, You're the One. I ordered a package of rubber ducks from Amazon (they have a ton of varieties! And got to work. Amazingly, I think this was the first layer cake that I've ever made, but it was super easy to put together, so I'm sure I'll try it again. Add a few ducks and voila.the rubber ducky cake is complete! Monday, August 16, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 1 WOG (Woman of God), wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, dancer, editor, reader.

The House of Merth: May 2010
http://houseofmerth.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
The House of Merth. Monday, May 24, 2010. I think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age. The ending of an era and the turning of a page. Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here. Lord have mercy on my next thirty years. In a couple of days, I'll be the big 3-0! Friday, May 21, 2010. Oops I'm desperately in need of an update. Update coming soon to a blog near you. In the meantime, happy Friday! Friday, May 7, 2010. Unfortunately, that same hesitation applies to baking. For the most part, I enj...

Simple method. profound effect. Thursday, January 1, 2015. New Year's Resolutions: Why they're not such a bad thing. I've long been apathetic towards New Years' Resolutions. Its not that I think they're bad, its just that I haven't ever been into making them. Formally, that is. You see, to some extent, A New Year's Resolution is like any other resolution: a reset. a new beginning. I nevertheless have jumped on the bandwagon and chosen to embrace our cultural practice of New Year's Resolutions. I instinct...

simple method. profound effect.: Slowly living the fast life
http://simplemethodprofoundeffect.blogspot.com/2015/07/slowly-living-fast-life.html
Simple method. profound effect. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Slowly living the fast life. Just ask my husband, and he'll quickly tell you that I am slow. At everything. I'm especially slow leaving the house once I've said "I'm ready". I meander over old mail. I ponder life's impossible questions. I stare out the window for far too long sometimes. I've kind-of always been an old lady, really. I was bound and determined to savor my wedding day. I remember scarfing down hot Stromboli in the kitchen in my wedding ...

simple method. profound effect.: October 2012
http://simplemethodprofoundeffect.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Simple method. profound effect. Saturday, October 13, 2012. Life measured by the magnolia tree. There’s something about death that makes one distinctly aware of the experiences of life. The air feels more crisp, the coffee bolder, the giggles of the baby that much more soulful. This morning, my mumsy and pops dropped me off early at the airport, each embracing me twice before I could make it to the curb with my bags—it was an unexpected trip. And one that I was not ready to make. Because life carries on.
