https://managingeffectively.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/supporting-the-motion-for-nus-to-have-a-full-time-paid-trans-officer-dont-coopt-my-disabled-voice

The Ordinary Life of a Chronically Fatigued Student. Supporting the Motion for NUS to have a full time paid trans officer. Don’t coopt my disabled voice. April 22, 2015. I am writing this blog both personally and in my capacity as disabled students’ representative on the NUS LGBT committee. I was intending to hang back on this campaign due to stresses from other sources but am so upset already by what I am seeing of the debate surrounding this motion that I might as well voice that. Don’t believe anyone ...

The Ordinary Life of a Chronically Fatigued Student. June 7, 2015. I’ve been bullied out of my PhD. In March 2014 I blogged about the inaccessibility of study spaces at the University of Bristol. Oh to have been proved wrong! I’ve used every official opportunity possible to pass on these comments to the graduate school management. I was not met with any useful response. Rather, I was asked Are you well enough to be doing this? It so happened that (as happens with meetings with lots of participants) we we...

The Ordinary Life of a Chronically Fatigued Student. March 15, 2014. The Graduate School of Arts and Humanities – colloquially known as the “Grad Pad” – as shown of the University of Bristol website. (Source: http:/ www.bristol.ac.uk/arts/gradschool/. Content warning: discussion of institutional ableism. But hey, if you were stuck in the toilet because of these crates you could always pull the emergency cord, right? Wrong The emergency cord has been cut off at the top. The Ordinary Life of a Chronically Fatigued Student. T with ME: 2. Getting Stabbed in the Bum. March 25, 2015. This is the second in a series of blogs about how testosterone hormone therapy interacts with my ME. In this blog I write about my reactions to my first hormone injections over the last eight months or so. Maybe this sounds quite negative. I just thought that it was perhaps the most obvious interaction of my ME with my hormone therapy. Overall the experiences both more complicated and mo...Cruci...

June 17, 2014. I wrote this a few months ago, while I was really suffering from post-trip fatigue and pain; things aren’t quite as bleak now. Posted today at PhDisabled. I returned about four months ago from a 20-month research trip to a country with minimal infrastructure, extreme climate and terrible living conditions, and political unrest. I’ve managed projects, led teams, done clandestine investigations into corruption under government radar I owned a motorbike. God, I was insufferable. I can’t tell ...

Self-advocacy: repeating yourself? | Unhinged

https://internallyunhinged.wordpress.com/2014/03/26/self-advocacy-repeating-yourself

Being in my body without hating it: a project →. March 26, 2014. Self-advocacy, for me is declaring your condition and your limitations; asserting your own timelines, needs and experience; asking for help, consideration, moderations or alterations; requesting understanding and a reflexive response. What I’ve been struck by recently, though, on the #AcademicAbleism hashtag on Twitter, is that what universities seem to read as ‘self-advocacy’ is actually massive repetition for us disabled students. Not con...

Being in my body without hating it: a project | Unhinged

On “chronic” →. March 31, 2014. Being in my body without hating it: a project. Over the years, I’ve had several different feelings about living in a shitty body. When you can feel your whole skeleton, just sitting in your sack of skin and muscles, heavy, crunchy and exhausting, not doing what you tell it to, you get up to some weird mental imagery about mind versus body. Come on, flompy! I need to get to the library. No alternatives, no fuss. Not listening to your knees. Off we flop. FOI about DSA cuts.

Being in my body without hating it: a project. FOI about DSA cuts →. April 3, 2014. On “chronic”. As I’ve said, a bit, on this blog – it’s (potentially ironically? Taken me quite a while to understand what a “chronic genetic deteriorative joints condition” actually means. I’m hoping @PhDisabled. Impossible really to explain how things feel. HOW & WHEN. To provide the knowledge and guidance necessary to achieve the best possible outcome during critical in-flight emergencies. The lessons from accident investigation reports are not being absorbed by aviation training departments as they should. And because the industry is not aware of the existence of this knowledge they don’t realize they are missing it and how important it is to them. They get into situations they did not foresee and consequently are not ready to deal with them, and incorrec...
