Life in Northern Towns : Dewsbury, West Yorkshire
http://www.lifeinnortherntowns.com/2015/08/dewsbury-west-yorkshire.html
Life in Northern Towns. A travel blog to chronicle trips to random northern towns in the UK. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. I got a taste for going back to Yorkshire. The only problem was that we’ve been to lots of places in Yorkshire over the years and have visited most of the classy places. It was time to bite the bullet and visit some of the more down-to-earth places. My first impression was that it’s quite hilly and there are a lot of taxis in Dewsbury. We headed to Dewsbury Market.

Life in Northern Towns : Middleton, Greater Manchester
http://www.lifeinnortherntowns.com/2015/06/middleton-greater-manchester.html
Life in Northern Towns. A travel blog to chronicle trips to random northern towns in the UK. Sunday, 21 June 2015. Middleton, Greater Manchester. Now, I did know I had been to Middleton. Before, in the 1970s. I believe a Lena Zavaroni. Album may have been purchased there, along with some dodgy country and western records for my dad. Nearly 40 years later I’m back and the shopping precinct. Where those records were bought, is still there. At first we headed towards Middleton Arena. We did spot a load of d...

Life in Northern Towns : Stoke-on-Trent (Hanley), Staffordshire
http://www.lifeinnortherntowns.com/2015/04/stoke-on-trent-hanley-staffordshire.html
Life in Northern Towns. A travel blog to chronicle trips to random northern towns in the UK. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Stoke-on-Trent (Hanley), Staffordshire. The drive from Newcastle-under-Lyme. Was meant to be 11 minutes (3 miles), but it was more like 30 minutes. What was really confusing driving to Stoke-on-Trent were the signs for the civic centre and the city centre. Were we on the right road? After several detours we found ourselves parking up under Go Outdoors. It was only after the trip, and I look...

Life in Northern Towns : Liverpool - Take Two
http://www.lifeinnortherntowns.com/2013/03/liverpool-take-two.html
Life in Northern Towns. A travel blog to chronicle trips to random northern towns in the UK. Sunday, 10 March 2013. Liverpool - Take Two. It’s been about three and half years since I posted on here about Liverpool. And since then I still visit the place from time to time. I went to the Everyman with my best mate to see Macbeth in 2011 – it was an ace production. Last year I took my brother and his girlfriend to the city – they were pleasantly surprised by the city and the developments. This place is real...

Life in Northern Towns : Hyde, Greater Manchester
http://www.lifeinnortherntowns.com/2015/07/hyde-greater-manchester.html
Life in Northern Towns. A travel blog to chronicle trips to random northern towns in the UK. Sunday, 12 July 2015. Hyde, Greater Manchester. I’d never thought of going to Hyde. Getting to Hyde is straightforward – M60, turn off at junction 24, pick up M67, exit junction 3 and follow the A627 onto the A57. We parked up by the Clarendon Shopping Centre and it cost £2 for 3 hours. To be honest it’s kind of optimistic to spend that amount of time in Hyde. There are plenty of pubs in Hyde, many of which are t...

Chocolate Sandwich: One of the Girls
http://chocolatesandwich.blogspot.com/2013/07/one-of-girls.html
The fierce last stand of all I am'. Sunday, July 14, 2013. One of the Girls. 8216;Well, let’s try and deconstruct it and I promise I’ll listen this time. But before we do, did you have a late night coffee? Or some cheese before it happened? 8216;No. No coffee, or cheese.’. Not since the very vivid Morrissey dream. Have I shared such details with Maude. 8216;Yes. They chat and smoke. It looks like one of those high pub tables, only.’. 8216;Only outside. Yes, I get the picture. Anything else? 8216;I don...

Chocolate Sandwich: 'No Bra Time for Happy Hour Girls'
http://chocolatesandwich.blogspot.com/2015/02/no-bra-time-for-happy-hour-girls_27.html
The fierce last stand of all I am'. Friday, February 27, 2015. No Bra Time for Happy Hour Girls'. Maude and the girls were all sleeping soundly. It was late last night and I sat on the sofa to focus on the exciting events of my day. Always trying to do the funny thing. I wanted to call. I wanted to call to say that everything would be alright and that there must be other ways to pay the bills. I wanted to call to say that the cushions didn't match the sofa. Chocolate Sandwich: Let There be Light
http://chocolatesandwich.blogspot.com/2012/11/let-there-be-light.html
The fierce last stand of all I am'. Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Let There be Light. 8216;I’m totally with you,’ said Lenny.’ I hate the winter too. It’s cold and unforgiving - a bit like my ex-wife.’. Lenny is a friend and an optician. We’d got to know each other as members of the same quiz team. Lenny was dropping off Maude’s new ‘geek chic’ glasses as a favour and the clocks had just gone back. The lamp arrived within a couple of days. With a cupboard full of immune boosting vitamins, St. 8217; asked...
