I was recently in mussoorie with my wife and we enjoyed our time walking up and down the mall road. there i met a couple of these guys who earn their living by showing the tourists five important landmarks in mussoorie with their telescopes - a century old temple, a lovers' point (that's a popular one! What i was amazed about was that one of them - jai singh - has been doing that same thing for the past 25 years!
