The name of the farm was inspired by an artist of particular importance in the early Italian Renaissance and in the history of art of Irsina, an artist who is particularly important for his perfect spatial imagination, the passion for a clear cut drawing and the monumental shape of his figures, Andrea Mantegna. Called Montepeloso (from the greek "Monte Plusos" = fertile and rich land) until 1895, when a royal decree signed by King Umberto, the name was replaced with the current one: Irsina.
