Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: All-Vol and WAIST: Sun, Fun, and Unhealthy Consumption
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2012/01/all-vol-and-waist-sun-fun-and-unhealthy.html
Tuesday, January 17, 2012. All-Vol and WAIST: Sun, Fun, and Unhealthy Consumption. The main thing for Peace Corps Senegal is the costumes. Each region has a team (Dakar, St. Louis, Linguere, Koalack, Tamba/Kedegou, and Kolda), and each region has a theme. For example, Dakar was "French:". Kaolack was "Boy Scouts and Girlscouts," St. Louis was "Scuba Corps," Linguere was "Suits," Kolda was "South of the Boarder," and Tamba/Kedegou, in a fit of literalism, was "Baseball:". The 7th Inning Stretch. It's 49 m...

Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: September 2011
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 29, 2011. I know I talked about this a little in my last post, but I felt that entry was too long so I'm dividing them into two. Yesterday we did the site announcement ceremony thing. They blindfolded all of us, led us around a big map on Senegal painted on the basketball court. Then, after a count to three we all removed our blindfolds to see where we would be spending the next two years. I'll let you know. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. 8:00: Washed and presentable, Rachael and I go...
Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: Back in the USA, 22 months early
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2012/01/back-in-usa-22-months-early.html
Friday, January 20, 2012. Back in the USA, 22 months early. Return, Inchallah) that our service will not continue the way we imagined, but it will continue. Save us a seat in the disco hut. And don't lose Settlers of Catan while I'm gone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). From September 2011 to January 2012 I served as an Agroforestry Extension Agent with the Peace Corps in Senegal, West Africa. In January, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to come home for treatment. Now what?
Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: August 2012
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 6, 2012. We'll always have Senegal . . . But, believe it or not, having cancer isn't all bad. Everyone is really nice to you, you don't need to shave anymore, you have the ultimate excuse for everything, and you get the satisfaction of making people feel awkward when they're stupid enough to ask you why you're bald. Means that we'd have been gone from Africa for a whole year, and would only have eight months left in our service. Sure, we could extend our service beyond that, but we've ...
Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: February 2012
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 12, 2012. It's under my skiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin! On Friday I had surgery again; this time to have a portacath (click here for more info). Put into my chest so they don't wreck my veins during chemo. This is a good thing, because I've had to have three IVs in the last two weeks and they aren't very fun. To be honest, getting a portacath is much more uncomfortable than having a testicle removed, but I have plenty of Lortab and Rachael to keep me company. I feel so loved. The contents of ...
Scott's Amazing Peace Corps Blog: The Great Gambian New Year's Adventure!
http://lavieafrique.blogspot.com/2012/01/the-great-gambian-new-years-adventure.html
Wednesday, January 4, 2012. The Great Gambian New Year's Adventure! Chapter One: Getting There. We didn't want to use up our vacation days, so we didn't tell anyone in Peace Corps that we were going. But this is The Gambia we're talking about! People go through it all the time to get from one side of Senegal to the other. No big deal, right? So, we were in The Gambia! Chapter Two: Being There. For another. The best part, in terms of traveling, is the exchange rate. The Gambia is the only country ...Next ...

The many adventures of Amanda and Kim
The many adventures of Amanda and Kim. Saturday, September 1, 2007. Volume 1: Moving In. Today, we built a fort, ok so that wasn’t the only thing, but it was a highlight. We started with watching mummy returns and then we had lunch. We went to the dollar store and bought a hammer, nails, a screwdriver, and a shower curtain! After she had built a wall, she continued to build around my bed mattress with items that were in my room. The funniest thing about this, is when all the rolls fell out of the bag...

The Many Adventures of Lauren
The Many Adventures of Lauren. Tuesday, January 15, 2013. It's not often that I brag about my major. It's not often I brag about my major. Generally, I tell people "I have a useless degree.". So, when I signed up to be an Equine science major, let me just tell you. I had no. idea. what I was getting into. Lets just say that on Day 3 of "Intro to Animal Science" when Doc Davis, a man who was skinny as a bean pole, stood well over 6' tall and had a handlebar mustache and southern drawl that almost required...
