Handwoven baskets and fiber art by Dominica Lord-Wood
Many Paths Pine Needle Baskets
http://www.manypathsfiberart.com/baskets.html
As a cultural anthropologist and craftswoman, I am drawn to traditional crafts because of my fascination with the way these forms of artistic expression keep cultural values and traditions alive. Baskets were probably some of the first carrying vessels and containers used by peoples all over the world. Various organic materials could be harvested to make the baskets, while the fibers' flexibility allowed for great variation in shape and form. Web design by Mainely Computing.
Artist Statement of Dominica Lord-Wood: Many Paths

I am drawn to traditional crafts because of my fascination with the way these forms of artistic expression keep cultural values and traditions alive. Making fiber art allows me to connect with my ancestral heritage, while exploring creative innovations. I have recently begun to weave wool yarn into some of the baskets to integrate my love of weaving reed baskets and spinning wool. When I make crocheted vests, sweaters, hats, scarves, or handbags I work with yarns from several sources: Bartlett Yarns.

Dominica Lord-Wood has been a craftswoman for many years. As a young woman in Vermont, she earned a good living by making leather goods, hand crocheted work and hand sewn patchwork pillows. It was enough for a young woman living the simple life of a back-to-lander in the Northeast Kingdom. This site shows only a few of the many fiber art designs she has made and continues to make for discerning customers and collectors. Web design by Mainely Computing.

If any of these styles appeal to you, but you wish to have them in different colors, please feel free to email me your request and I will be happy to oblige. When I attended the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts in Cape Breton I took a brief course in Gaelic, as well as courses in spinning and weaving. During the weaving classes at the College, I felt as if working on the loom connected me to my foremothers who had also been artists and craftswomen. Web design by Mainely Computing.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009. First Month - Whew! Okay, so it didn't go anything like I'd planned. I'm okay with that - sort of. Kennedy, my youngest was much harder to keep on task than I thought, and Bennett, my oldest, was just as hard as he was at the beginning of the first grade. Gibson, my five and a half year old did amazing! He is so professional and excited about all of it that I had to keep moving him ahead while the other two were behind schedule.
