A Conversation About Painting
Marc Bohne: June 2016
http://marcbohne.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Did some cleaning up in the studio. Needed. This space is small, tiny compared to the old Artwood. Not enough space to breathe. I will try to have some new things in a week or so. This is winter aspens, Colorado. Links to this post. Wednesday, June 1, 2016. There are several layers of consideration when trying to make comparisons in the “arts”. One problem is “performance” getting lumped up into the same discussion as “solid” artwork. This is a way bigger group, and the assuming ...
Marc Bohne: So Long E.F. Norwood...
http://marcbohne.blogspot.com/2016/08/so-long-ef-norwood.html
Monday, August 15, 2016. So Long E.F. Norwood. I am going to side track for one episode, slightly into the personal. It relates to my painting insofar as it is part of the observe and comment part of daily life that good painting is all about. This little watercolor was done by his friend David Oliver. It is not a portrait of E.F., it IS E.F. August 16, 2016 at 2:39 PM. What a great story and lovely testament to your friend. August 30, 2016 at 7:08 PM. August 31, 2016 at 8:27 AM. Marc Bohne: Summer
http://marcbohne.blogspot.com/2016/07/ahhh.html
Sunday, July 3, 2016. Ahhh it is summertime. Hard to think much less write. Much better to sit out back in the gazebo with a G&T next to the cat half sleeping, and half monitoring the bird feeder activity. Clouds of little bugs whirring in the air, bits of sun making it through the Sycamore canopy overhead. Scanning ebay on my ipad, biddin' on some shoes. July 3, 2016 at 10:52 AM. Marc Bohne: Varnish
http://marcbohne.blogspot.com/2016/08/varnish.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Varnish is a tough topic. Some do, some dont. But if you want your work to last, and colors to not fade, and dirt not to be part of your legacy, you better varnish. A good varnish protects the surface from dirt and grime. It also protects the paint pigments from the destructive power of ultraviolet light. Both these forces are entropic, and do their job over time. Varnish also brings dull paint out and brings the color to life. It unifies various surfaces, and clarifies.
Marc Bohne: December 2016
http://marcbohne.blogspot.com/2016_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 3, 2016. I found this in my google docs, from awhile back. I called it my commandments of painting. The Commandments of Painting. Know your skill level. Pick a subject or model that you can paint. Stay humble. Then practice practice practice. Don’t get too involved personally in the outcome. Don’t get caught up in materials fetishes. Paint what you care about. Have an articulated reason why you do it. Don’t labor a point. Simple description, then move on. Links to this post.

Carole Baker's Art Journal: February 2015
http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Monday, February 9, 2015. This is a woodblock print that I cut and printed in December. I did it for a Baren exchange. With 17 other printmakers. I was the coordinator for the exchange and the other 17 sent their prints to me and I was in charge of divvying them up and sending each participant one of each of the other's prints. I had coordinated another exchange a few years ago with 30 participants, so it went pretty smoothly. I took them to the PO today. Small town in Alaska.

http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2015/01/day-18.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Sunday, January 18, 2015. Watercolor 5.5x6 inches. Another painting for Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. Today's painting is one that I did earlier in the month. Today was catching up day for a lot of things but I did work for about an hour on one of my oil paintings. I hope to have one of them done by tomorrow. You go from watercolor to oil with great skill, beautiful mood in this landscape! January 19, 2015 at 1:15 PM. Thank you, Celia. Small town in Alaska.
Carole Baker's Art Journal: Number 22
http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2015/01/number-23.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Thursday, January 29, 2015. I'm back to painting everyday until I've posted 30 paintings. I lost some time with my cold, so I'm going to keep working into February. Actually, I probably will have painted 30 paintings by the end of the month. I wiped out several and have a few little watercolors that I haven't posted. You sure are flexible changing from oils to w/c in one sitting. Glad you are better and able to wrap up the challenge. January 29, 2015 at 7:21 PM. Welcome to my ...

http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2015/01/number-22-and-23.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Saturday, January 31, 2015. Number 23 and 24. This is the last day of Leslie Saeta's challenge. To paint 30 paints in January and post them on my blog. I acually did paint 30, though some got wiped out and some I don't think anyone would want to see. I feel I've made progress with my oil painting and am glad that I let myself depend on my memory and sketches. Watercolor 3x4.5 inches. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Small town in Alaska. Carole Baker's Art Journal: Sick Day
http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2015/01/sick-day.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. My painting today is not one I did today. I did it last winter, from my car at the end of the dock, looking across to Pleasant Island and Chichigof Island. I caught a bad cold a few days ago and this morning I decided I'd better take it easy at least for today. I caught the cold from my husband who has been sick for 2 weeks and has developed pneumonia. Great colors Carole, and great willpower. This is a nice series! January 21, 2015 at 7:06 PM.

Carole Baker's Art Journal. Saturday, January 17, 2015. Watercolor 4.5x5.5 inches. Another painting for Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. I have three oil paintings in progress. I did this little watercolor on the first day of the month which will have to suffice for today. yesterday now that I'm posting it. Love the suggestion of the shrub fuzz with the white area. What a great idea. And so sorry to hear about your husbands illness. January 24, 2015 at 5:06 AM. Small town in Alaska.
Carole Baker's Art Journal: February 2014
http://carolebaker.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Carole Baker's Art Journal. Thursday, February 27, 2014. POINT ADOLPHUS gouache painting 10.5x7.5. I've been trying to not paint from photographs for much of the last year, and have mostly been using oils. But this painting that I had started and struggled with for close to two years needed finishing. I used several photos that I had taken years ago while fishing with my husband, . and this month I finally cut a mat and found a frame for it. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Carole Baker's Art Journal. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Water mixable oil 6 x 4 inches. I worked on this one off and on for a few days this week. Saturday, March 30, 2013. Water mixable oil 3.5 x 6.5 inches. I started this after finishing the apples and knife yesterday afternoon. Its the view out the window. I had a mixture of left-over paint that looked just like the willow trees in the middle-ground. As you can see, almost all of the snow is gone. Friday, March 29, 2013. Thursday, March 28, 2013. I painted...

Carole Baker's Art Journal. Sunday, March 9, 2014. A PAINTING AT THE BEACH. BEACH IN WINTER watercolor 6.5x11 inches. A two-week stretch of sunny weather ended a few days ago. I went to our beautiful beach on many of those days and went for walks and painted from my car. I worked on this piece on 4 different trips at the same time of day. There are three rare lady slipper orchids amongst the trees that I go to see in bloom every year and I fear that some vehicle is going to obliterate them. Carol Marine'...
