Life in Guyana, Just Now. Monthly Archives: August 2014. Dietitian = Prep Cook? August 28, 2014. And come home in the afternoon, relax/go to the market/maybe finish my workout, cook dinner, mess around on the computer or watch a TV show, and then go to bed around 9:30. So basically, I’ve turned into an old lady. The view on my Sunday evening “long run” over the Canje Bridge. So why does work have a question mark, you ask? Wish me luck that everything falls into place. What happens to the street when the ...

Life in Guyana, Just Now. We survived the first two weeks! May 11, 2014. I have survived my first two weeks as a Peace Corps trainee in Guyana. It has been an interesting first week, and although I am a little tired, I have learned a ton. After a day of staging in Miami, all 34 PC Guyana ( Guy 26 as we are called, because we are the 26. And other similar questions. Apparently, it doesn’t matter how chill a group of people is. Shit will hit the fan sooner or later. I think I’m really going to like Guyana.

Life in Guyana, Just Now. Children, Birthdays and Tarantulas. May 18, 2014. We have just finished up week three in Guyana, and it was quite the eventful week! Tuesday started out pretty relaxed. The entire morning was work time, so my group (We all work at the same health center and school.) decided to meet and work at the airport. The airport has quickly become the hangout spot for the group. Air conditioning, wifi, and beer? Us: Good afternoon. We are here to observe a class. Can teach a class . The re...

Life in Guyana, Just Now. Monthly Archives: June 2014. June 24, 2014. So much for a weekly blog entrythat’s too much work. Plus, the lack of anything exciting to report on makes blog writing real boring. Training has been getting a little old. We sit in a classroom, listen to people talk, blah, blah, blah. The excitement was resurrected, however, on Friday, June 13. Http:/ www.atozmapsdata.com/zoomify.asp? Thursday, we left for site. Details coming in part two of this post! Dietitian = Prep Cook? A Life Worth Chasing. May 31, 2014. Will I survive this? So what if I do? Tomorrow it will just happen all over again. This is merely an everyday ride on a Guyanese minibus. Our primary mode of transportation…. As you can see, we are headed towards “the light” every time we get in the bus 😉. In reality, I have become pretty accustom to this daily adrenaline rush, and it has just been one of the many things becoming more and more familiar to us as we adapt to our new Guyanese lives. Aside from the variou...

A Life Worth Chasing. The Heat is Real. September 22, 2015. I would if I could…but the power bill would kill me! Fortunately, I have not been in my apartment often, so am only really losing sleep over the issueno biggy, eh. 😉 If you’ve been following my facebook page you may have a pretty good idea of what I have been up to the past few months. Some art projects from kids at summer camp. Kids getting active at camp! At a workshop, saying something important I’m sure 🙂. The Blessed Hands Foundation.

A Life Worth Chasing. Two Weeks In, Two Years to Go. May 13, 2014. The transition from Splashmin’s resort to Host Family placement was abrupt. We did not know who our host family would be up until the point we were standing in front of them one afternoon. The Peace Corps then turned us over to them, and off we went. All 34 of us going in separate directions, with total strangers that we have been paired with to spend the next 9 weeks. Intense. Desiree with our dinner. Doing Laundry by hand….
