I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - 127 Hours
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-127-hours.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. REVIEW] - 127 Hours. Sometimes, stories that are bred out of the headlines can be a mixed bag when being converted to the big screen. With various biopics hitting on both the great side (Ali pops into mind) and less-than-great side (Walk The Line is a perfect example of this) of the quality spectrum, there may not be a single more difficult task within the world of film than attempting to make a single entities’ time on this earth interesting cinematically. 127 HOURS – 7/10.

I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - Sucker Punch
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/03/review-sucker-punch.html
Friday, March 25, 2011. REVIEW] - Sucker Punch. While I’m not quite sure he’s the type of filmmaker the originators of the concept known as Auteur Theory dreamed would have fit the bill, it goes without saying that director Zack Snyder does just that. At least it should, after sitting down and watching his latest film, the action packed fever dream that is known as Sucker Punch. Teaming up with a foursome of fellow inmates in the asylum, they head out to attempt and escape the facility and the evil peopl...

I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - The Rite
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-rite.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. REVIEW] - The Rite. Sometimes, all that’s really needed to brighten up a relatively slow, uninteresting, or just plain poor slump of movies, is a good old scare. There is nothing quite like, cheap or not, getting your pants scared off you to make the January doldrums a little less hard to take. Films that just simply do not work, on even the campiest of levels. Films like The Rite. And The Rite is the worst. THE RITE - 2/10. Go see something good! I am 22 years old and I am atte...

I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - Sanctum
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/02/review-sanctum.html
Friday, February 4, 2011. While there may not be a better combo of credits to promote a film with, economically, than the names James Cameron and AVATAR, apparently that doesn’t mean anything qualitative. Directed by Alister Grierson, SANCTUM follows a group of adventurers, as they attempt to explore one of the world’s last yet-to-be-accessed cave system. Featuring a cast of relatively smaller named actors, the film has all the makings of something really intriguing. Yeah, this isn’t that. It’s a f...

I ARE MOVIES: REVIEW: The Last Airbender
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2010/07/last-airbender.html
Saturday, July 3, 2010. REVIEW: The Last Airbender. Coming into this weekend, you had two films that ran the spectrum of expectations. Well I’ll be damned, expectations can really be a bitch some times, and this is exactly one of them, because I would never had expected the outcomes to be so vastly different than one could have expected. Never have I would have thought that a film could be so utterly disappointing as the one featuring the bald kid with the power of air, earth, water and fire. I am 22 yea...

I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - Black Swan
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-black-swan.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. REVIEW] - Black Swan. In Darren Aronofsky I trust. With only five films under his belt (Black Swan being the director’s fifth film), director Darren Aronofsky has both become the most viscerally interesting director of his generation, as well as one who seems to grow, change, and shift with each new picture. A mixture of Roman Polanski style psychological horror, In My Skin style body horror, and the 16mm auteur style seemingly rooted with Aronfosky’s own essence, Black Sw...

I ARE MOVIES: [REVIEW] - Rage
http://irmoviereviews.blogspot.com/2011/01/review-rage.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. There are very few filmmakers that seem to bring with the simple addition of their name to a film, an automatic sense of credibility or inherent respect quite like the man himself, Guillermo del Toro. However well conceived the film truly may be though, all would be undone if it weren’t for this collection of really fantastic performances. That said, the premise, and often the writing, don’t hold the film to that relatively high standard. That said, he does save himself visually.
