Sunday, July 27, 2008. Yesterday's Globe and Mail books section rails against open relationships,. Courtesy of Elizabeth Nickson. S review of Jenny Block's Open. It would have sounded like excellent stuff to me in my 20s. Certainly, I was way into polyandry before I did something, what was it, oh yeah,. It's funny, because last time I checked "Oh, grow up" wasn't exactly the most rational, adult argument. I'm not even going to get into the infantalizing, paternalistic agism at that statement's heart.

Tuesday, September 04, 2007. Redhill, yes. When I saw that Consolation. His latest novel, was nominated for the Booker Prize, I thought, holy shit. I remember when his first novel, Martin Sloane. Came out in 2001 and being a bit indifferent to the idea of Redhill writing prose. (I was won over by Sloane. When I read it—in hardcover—in 2001. I also remember that the Globe&Mai. L review made a big deal out of the fact he utilized a female narrator.was that really the most interesting thing about it? It is ...

http://marcusmccann.blogspot.com/2007/09/sometimes-poems-can-be-tremendous.html

Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Sometimes, poems can be tremendous consolation when you're feeling down. I've already mentioned one such poem on this blog, but I thought I'd point out another such. It comes from a poetry anthology (I have a lot of anthologies. I used to really love them), I think Garrison Keillor's Good Poems. Lying around all day. With some strange new deep blue. Weekend funk, I'm not really asleep. When my sister calls. To say she's just hung up. From talking with Aunt Bertha.

Saturday, May 17, 2008. Rustbucket, little four-popper. I've seen more of the surface on Mars. Than of you, ultrasound shadow. How you lay me low! And the rest of me a fat glass jaw. I get reports through the wire of veins. Your rabbit pinches, feints and jabs. I log. Each personal best and sleep. Like a swan with an ear to my chest. You are the first thing I ever built,. Drafty and cold despite blood's small suns. Your joinery came out wrong. Sweetmeat, my ugly hero, the fault. Obviously, heartbreak is ...

Sunday, October 21, 2007. Parties at the bare bone of listening. The end of the Ottawa International Writer's Festival. Is today. Or tonight, I guess. Everything always happens at once so I can't be there for the final blowout, but it's been a wonderful program yet again. Not to mention that I'm still recovering from Trangress on Friday, which rocked. For me, the end of the Fest is always partly elegiac. a big wonderful thing is over again for six months, you know? The backyard planted; dark watered deck...

Field Trip City

http://fieldtripcity.blogspot.com/2008/05/today-is-my-last-full-day-in-toronto.html

Thursday, May 1, 2008. Tonight I'm getting together with Matt to have a beer and say so long for the time being. I'll have to spend the greater part of the day packing, but first I have to take back the rest of my library books and pay my fines, otherwise I'm pretty sure U of T will fail me out of spite. Last night I ordered one of the new iMacs from Future Shop. I should have it next week. It's the newest computer I've ever purchased and it's effing pretty:. I'm off. Tomorrow will be my last entry.

Friday, May 2, 2008. Well, this is it, I suppose. Pretty much just have to shut down and pack up the computer. It didn't take too long to pack. I'm not leaving with too much more than what I came here with. Note to self: don't go out drinking the night before moving again, no matter how good of an idea it seems. And if I do, stay away from red wine. It was good seeing Matt one last time anyway. We had dinner at Mackenzie's, a sports bar near his place. I had the chicken fingers. May 2, 2008 at 7:29 PM.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008. To blog or pass out. So many options. They give Master's degrees to jokers like me. I'm assuming. We'll see how the marks pan out. Titles of the main essays and projects I've written this year:. Balancing Acts: Comparing Storytelling Media Across Representations of Death in Venice. Memo-rizing Touch of Evil: The Execution and Effect of Orson Welles’ Intentions. Embodying Africadia: Representations of the Female Body in the Works of Oni the Haitian Sensation and Afua Cooper.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Up at 8:30, or what I'd define as an ungodly hour. Yesterday I asked for a one-day extension on my paper. I finished my arguments for Donnie Darko and wrote 13 annotations. I'm starting to think I might pull this off. A friend of mine on Facebook posted a great note about words and phrases us grad students are relieved to no longer have to use now that classes are coming to an end. Here's my list:. April 29, 2008 at 10:12 PM. It's interesting that Andrea says that. I got about ei...

Field Trip City: January 2008

http://fieldtripcity.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2008. I walked home from Keele Station and got shoved by a prick who wouldn't give me enough room on the sidewalk. No way I was going around him. I had "dinner" at McDonald's and thought the cashier short-changed me, but she was probably right. Wednesdays are starting to tick me off. Always felt like giving in. To the feeling I can't win. But I took it on the chin. Now I'm finally cashing in. Meeting every day with the rising sun. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Glad I didn't go first.

Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Today was much better. It started out with Touch of Evil and proceeded into another lunch at the Red Room with Tony and Eileen. About three quarters of the restaurant was furnished with couches and upholstery. Tony and Eileen both seem like nice people and they're entertaining to listen to. Eileen really reminds me of Esther. Tomorrow I'm meeting with my Opera group before heading over to Matt's to do up Halloween. Have a happy one. The war of the worlds. I did manage to fini...

Field Trip City: March 2008

http://fieldtripcity.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2008. I slept in late today. Yesterday I hit campus for awhile and browsed some electronic literature websites, and I think I'm going to shift the focus of my avant-garde paper a bit to discuss how the "reader" of a text is transformed into a "user," or a reader-author hybrid. I discovered some really strange art websites, of which there really is no shortage. Tomorrow is the first day of April. The beginning of the end! Sunday, March 30, 2008. I've always been really curious about the ...

Field Trip City: September 2007

http://fieldtripcity.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 30, 2007. I spent the day listening to The Marriage of Figaro, which I'll be seeing live on Tuesday. I wanted to get a feel for what the opera is actually about. I also watched Vanilla Sky, which I own but hadn't seen in a few years. It was more contrived than I remember it being, but it's certainly an ambitious film. I wrote 833 words. I'm trying to read as much Austin Clarke as I can before I fall asleep. It's going to be a busy week. The marriage of figaro. It's been a long nuit.

Field Trip City: December 2007

http://fieldtripcity.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 28, 2007. I'm back in Toronto for the night. My last day in Peterborough was spent checking out I Am Legend with the fam and braving my father's 401 driving skills (everyone arrived in one piece). Tomorrow is the day. I'm catching a plane at 6:15 PM out of Pearson and at 9:55 AM local time on Saturday I'm scheduled to touch down in Berlin. I get to see and touch and feel Andrea after spending four months apart from her. The idea is exhilarating. Wednesday, December 26, 2007. When everyon...

June 29, 2017. A couple of years ago, I began working on a little song writing project. It never came together, and only one lyric from that period ended up in. Shut Up Slow Down Let Go Breathe.
