Martha Love: December 2016

Made by Me Christmas Special. I haven't done a made by me for a while, mainly because I've been making presents for Christmas and so couldn't share them with you beforehand for obvious reasons. So here's what I've been up to:. The tree stumps are made from sticks of cinnamon to give them the smell of Christmas. Next up is Gruber, made for my friend Sophie who has a birthday straight after Christmas. The design is from a magazine I bought a couple of years ago and is by The Felt Mistress. My dad is notori...

Martha Love: January 2017

Made by Me and Work In Progress. Christmas feels like a long time ago, especially as I've been plagued by illness for most of January. But the plus side of recovering from illness is that there is time to create. The best Christmas present I received (from my fabulous parents) was a tapestry kit from the wonderful Hannah Bass. I've been lusting after these for quite some time and of course I had to go for Amsterdam. One of my favourite cities! And finally a quick lesson on when you should buy fabric that...

Martha Love: July 2016
http://marthalovesblog.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html
So it's been a while since I've done a Made by Me post. I seem to go through fads with my creativity focusing on one technique at a time. My current obsession is with machine embroidery / applique which I've been using for my latest set of birthday cards to give to friends and family. First up I made this Great Tit for my dad's birthday which was back in April! That's how long it's taken me to share with you! Look I even managed a work in progress image as I loved the simplicity of the shape. So there we...

Martha Love: August 2016

Great Dixter looking amazing in August. Sorry - it's all just too gorgeous! Phew, blimey a lot of pictures - sorry about that but I hope you enjoyed them! A long awaited visit to Sissinghurst. There are two really famous gardens in the area where we were staying, Sissinghurst and Great Dixter. If you are a regular reader you'll know that I try to make a pilgrimage to Dixter. You are welcomed by this incredible wildflower meadow which is a small lawn on either side of the main entrance into the house.

Autumn colours come to Brixton. So the past couple of weeks have been super busy as, big news, OH is moving in. This is fantastic but does mean I've spent the past couple of weeks manically de-cluttering my flat to make room. I snapped the following a couple weeks ago but have only just got round to posting them! All taken in my local 'hood Brixton over 2 weekends. Love Autumn colours - they don't stay for long but they warm my soul with their brooding reds and oranges. Was great to see Kate Rowland.

Crafty Fox Market - Part of the Brixton Design Trail. The Crafty Fox Market. Presented a special edition this weekend for the Brixton Design Trail, part of London Designs week. I popped down on the Saturday and here are my favourite pictures:. The Crafty Fox Market will be in Peckham 8th and 9th October. Last days of summer. I've experienced Indian Summers before, indeed they are common but today was the hottest day in September in the UK since 1911 apparently. And if you pop over to my Instagram. You ma...

Martha Love: November 2016
http://marthalovesblog.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html
After I visited the Crafty Fox Market. The other week it was such a nice afternoon I decided to walk down the canal then through Brick Lane down to Liverpool Street to get the bus home. It's a rare treat to do a bit of exploring on my own without my trust OH by my side. Here are some of my favourite mix of reflections and graffiti with a sprinkle of autumn colour. Gavin Turk and more Autumn. Chaplin was brought up in the area before setting off to make his fortune in the USA in the early 20s. I made OH t...

Orchids at Kew Garden. This time last year my photo buddy and I went to snap spring colour. First up capturing spring colour on the way to the conservatory. Just look at this yellow. The conservatory houses many temperate zones so first up we had to walk through the desert. Which had a splash of colour. Before being hit with the vibrancy of the orchids. I loved these insect eating orchids. There were many ferns about to. An arch of orchids. This year's theme of the exhibition was carnival. The Horniman s...

Autumn colour and Neon. OH and I haven't been for a walk recently as it's life has been a little hectic, however I'd read in Time Out that there was a display of neon signs by Chris Bracey, the genius behind 'Gods Own Junkward' in Shepherd Market. Autumn light is a magical thing. I loved these colours dancing off the lake in St James' Park making it look more like an oil painting than water. Having said that I love random bursts of bright red shining like a beacon against the green. Back in Brixton the b...
