CAL'S IN SAUDI ARABIA
Ships of the Desert. No, I am not referring to the humble camel. Saudi Arabia has quite a lot of those, of course, but that’s fairly normal for this part of the world. The phenomenon I am talking about is much more out of place for a city located in the middle of the Arabian desert: hotels built in the shape of beached ocean liners. The Yacht is a banquet hall rather than a hotel, but it is also built to look like a cruise ship. The “gh” in the middle is the Arabic letter ghain. Or the Scottish loch.
