yurting: International

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/p/international.html

We love Australia. We are also fascinated by the wonderful variety in our world. We have a long list of places we would love to visit, ideally spending enough time in a place to experience something of what its culture offers. When Maria and I watch TV together, it will likely be either the food channel or NatGeo Adventure. Good food and interesting places. You can read about them here. We both instantly wondered what it would look like to change the way we had thought about our international travel.

yurting: the beginning

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/p/the-beginning.html

How did we end up living like this? Like all other parents, when our children were younger, ‘holidays’ were hard work. We bought one of those big family tents and loved the change of scenery that camping offered. We stayed in some beautiful places around Victoria, and as is often the case, family memories were made among wind, rain, dirt, open fires and sunshine. About the same time, Maria’s cousin Darren was diagnosed with motor-neuron disease. Darren was fit, healthy and adventurous. He w...Rather than...

yurting: April 2013

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 23 April 2013. Monday, 22 April 2013. The meaning of cars. Pat, our 1989 Nissan Patrol is a wonderful car. Like so many objects, it means more to us than its commercial value (no much! Because of the memories and associations. Over this weekend, Pat took us north across lush green countryside and through the Great Sandy National Park towards Fraser Island. Our stop this weekend was Rainbow Beach. A simple fateful decision can lead to heart shattering consequences. I’m sure both men wis...Satisfa...

yurting: September 2013

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 30 September 2013. Alongside mandatory tourist sites, we love just doing ordinary stuff while travelling. We've noted before that for us, the 3 day mark (in one place) is an important threshold. It seems that you get past the 'must do' visits, get oriented re public transport and can make time just to hang about. Sunday, 29 September 2013. Misc snaps and comments: Kyoto. A quiet moment overlooking Kyoto. No trip to Kyoto would be complete without a visit to the Kinkaku Ji (Golden Pavillion).

yurting: October 2013

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 6 October 2013. Maria's travel / photoblog #278 of 365. Saturday, 5 October 2013. A new photoblog from Maria from the late afternoon in Takayama. Then and now in Nippon. The Japanese are masters at managing small spaces. Craftsmanship is also strong. Alongside the propensity to adopt cutting edge fashion, Japan has now become a recurring 'go to' place to showcase contemporary design and lifestyle. Two illustrations of this are Monocle's. Coming here this year was more than recreation. I have ...

yurting: January 2014

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 1 January 2014. Seasons inevitably end . The doors of our Caloundra apartment are wide open to the humidity of the evening. Outside revellers are celebrating the last evening of 2013, music and voices mingle in happy tones. I have just read, cover to cover, the latest Kinfolk Magazine. Which is all a prelude to what I sat down to write about. It feels like our years of yurting, at least as we have known them, have ended. But it is a happy ending! Over the last few years, our circumstances have...

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 10 July 2013. Friday, 5 July 2013. Alain De Botton’s. Is a great little book. At least 7 of our friends have been ill (some violently so) over the last week or so. A tent or caravan is not the best place to be with gastro! The waterlogged days have given way to clouds, despite the promise of sunshine, which has only fleetingly tantalized us. The lack of fantasy style holidaying but because. Sometimes holidays simply means ‘away from work’. While this is practically accurate, I&...Going away &#...

Tuesday, 21 May 2013. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). What is a yurt? Noun: a circular domed dwelling that is portable and self supporting; originally used by nomadic Mongol and Turkic people of central Asia . These days, those who are drawn to yurt living are interested in finding out what they can comfortably live without. Don't rush; don't complain; what happens happens. Savour the hour; respect the locals; what happens happens. From mid 2016: Maria's blog. 2015-2016: the red door. 2014: the colour of blue.

yurting: March 2013

http://theyurtingblog.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 29 March 2013. Sunday, 24 March 2013. The lengths we go to to be human. Most of us live urban lives. We drive in cars on sealed roads, work inside often climate controlled offices and spend our evenings inside at home – usually anyway. Make no mistake, cities offer us a lot. We live where we do because we enjoy the opportunities that a population centre offers. We like the sophistication, progress and being where things happen. One of my favourite ad campaigns in recent years, made me laugh audib...

June 15, 2012. Masochists and Lazy Bones. My longest job has been working in a restaurant. I have left once just to come back a year later, tried to leave shortly after that, juggled a Monday-Friday 9-5 while serving on the weekends, and now I’m back to being a full-time server. Almost a fifth of my life has been devoted to this shit. People like me are the epitome of masochists. 8221; or “I am so hungover, I can’t work today! June 13, 2012. Giuliana and Bill Make Me Sappy. Maria dich lieben

Mittwoch, 27. Februar 2013. Blog-Ende mit dem hl. Gabriel Possenti.

the colour of blue

The colour of blue. Our 'one year' opportunity to fulfil a dream of living by the sea has given rise to "we can't possibly leave yet, let's stay a little longer". It doesn't make much sense to live in one state and work in another but then again we often end up doing things a little differently. Thursday, 1 January 2015. How much we will miss this view. A very Happy New Year to all…. Sunday, 14 December 2014. Wednesday, 3 December 2014. I’m dreaming off sitting on the balcony of our new apartment i...

The Red Door

We often ask ourselves that question. It often leads to unexpected decisions. And so here we are, surprisingly, in Tasmania, continuing our quest to live a life without regret. Monday, 3 October 2016. Tuesday, 27 September 2016. Making the most of monday. A blue sky is a rarity at the moment and Monday morning is a good enough excuse for getting out. Finding the best spot. Yoga on the beach. Dad, what are you doing? Sunday, 25 September 2016. Fruit and veg and herbs. Whenever we have moved of late, the n...
