Marias Musings in Akiuk and Napaskiak Alaska. Friday, January 8, 2010. We packed the truck and drove across the ice to the airstrip and waited for the plane. I had changed my reservation to leave at 2:30 rather than 8:30 in the evening. That allowed extra time in Anchorage for a little last minute shopping. The trip home was smooth. No delays! Marias Musings in Akiuk and Napaskiak Alaska. Saturday, October 24, 2009. Freeze-up was very fast this year. It began on Monday, October 19th and within two weeks our river was frozen. Here are some photos of our village during freeze-up. I took this photo from my kitchen window. The Johnson River is completely frozen. This is the pond behind the school. I took this photo on Friday evening October 30, 2009. Children can now ice skate on the pond. Sunrise at 10:10 A.M. One of the many dogs in the village.

The clothing is beautiful. Everyone wears a qaspeq and has dance fans. The women have beautiful headdresses that they wear. I gingerly held the handle of my shopping cart as I perused the aisles of goodies. What to get? I got just about everything I wanted. Interested in prices?
