Renewable Energy
Freitag, 21. September 2007. While living in Germany I have completely immersed myself (and become slightly obsessive) in renewable energy, primarily solar power, though wave energy is in my peripheral. When you think sunny regions, Germany does not automatically pop into mind. Perhaps California, Hawaii, Spain, etc, but Germany? Well you are right; it has roughly the same number of sunny days as rainy Seattle. Posted by Marissa @ 04:31.

Blind Dining
Montag, 10. September 2007. My life saving grip was pulling back on the shoulder of our blind waiter, Constanza. While she was swiftly gliding in the total darkness to table 26, I was doing a hesitant, insecure shuffle. She placed my hands on the back of a wooden chair. Helplessly standing there, I listened to the German banter of other diners and tried to paint a visual of the room. I imagined an upside down scalene triangle, and our table was at the base. The finest blind man restaurant in Berlin).

My volume was tested my first day at Reuters TV in Berlin - a birthday party and a competitive invitation to test my abilities. The once icy mugs were warming with the relaxed grip, exposing the wild ones who were lining up Yagermeister shots; the heav...

Germany
Dienstag, 28. August 2007. North East German Island in the Baltic Sea). Rügen is known for its chalk cliffs, white beaches, amber, and Nazi resort - Prora (a massive cement bloc built by Hitler for 20,000 holidaymakers to have an all inclusive beach vacation, but it was never used). I think it was biking along the river Isar, with my favorite Munich pal, Marion, that I realized this is really one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Open up any fairytale book, and wallah, there is Munich...

A Sunrise in Dresden - 62 years after the levelling 'column of flame'). I took off for a 6:30am sunrise run in Dresden and had the above quote burning in my mind. As I cut through the city, springing off the cobblestone, and jetting down to the Elbe River, I could not stop thinking about the death and rubble these streets endured. British an...
