El centro urbano se sitúa sobre la ribera sur del lago Villarrica, el cual es uno de los primeros eslabones de una larga cadena de lagos y volcanes al sur de Chile. Ubicada a 780 kilómetros de la ciudad de Santiago, capital de Chile, con acceso por la ruta Panamericana o por el paso internacional Mamuil Malal desde Argentina. Cualquier época del año es interesante para conocer esta ciudad. La región posee dos parques nacionales, Huerquehue y Villarrica.

Hay tres rutas principales hacia Pucón. 1) Desde el norte. 8211; desde Santiago o Concepción pasando por Temuco, Freire y Villarrica. 2) Desde el sur. 8211; desde Puerto Montt o Valdivia pasando por Loncoche y Villarrica. 3) Desde el este. Argentina) – desde San Martín de los Andes atravesando el paso Mamuil-Malal (también llamado paso Tromen). Las dos primeras rutas están completamente pavimentadas. Que corresponden a unas 9 horas de viaje. El camino internacional tiene ripio.
