Real Gone: September 2010
http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 29 September 2010. I’m pleased to say the answer to that question is a resounding no! A demo recorded during the Albini sessions (and included as part of the download version of this release), ‘De2’ employs a Tool-esque drum part, punctuated with rhythm guitars. At under two minutes, it sounds a little abrupt. Maybe there was meant to be more, maybe not. Even though it’s not as essential as ‘Ratchet’ or ‘Bazel’, that drum part is great. Real Gone: February 2011

Monday, 28 February 2011. NATHAN EDWARDS - New Season. 8216;Cold Winter’ is an acoustic shuffle, backed by simple drumming and washes of organ. Once again, the chorus could be a little stronger, but a key change and tuneful bridge section make up for any shortcomings. ‘Song For a Summer Day’ is a number based around hard sounding acoustic guitar strings. Edwards’s lead vocal has an easy tone which lends itself well to the style of acoustic pop/rock. Get ‘New Season’ here. Friday, 25 February 2011. 8216;D...

Real Gone: January 2011

Saturday, 29 January 2011. CANDY BUTCHERS - Hang On Mike. There are so many under-rated geniuses working in the power pop field, but none more deserving of huge recognition as Mike Viola, whose fourth full length release ‘Hang On Mike’- released under the Candy Butchers moniker - captures the singer-songwriter at his absolute best. Isms of ‘Let’s Have a Baby’ will provide instant joy. The stabbing piano should be enough, but when combined with a quirky chorus vocal featuring potenti...When Mike’s s...

Real Gone: June 2011
http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 14 June 2011. THE DEMOS - Lovely. As mentioned, most of the songs featured on ‘Lovely’ have the necessary hooks needed to make them stand up. There’s little here that sounds like essential listening, but repeated listens show a couple of songs to be great. With regards to the best material here, it’s a shame The Demos didn’t have the huge budget to give those tunes the kind of send off they deserved. Friday, 10 June 2011. SYD ARTHUR - Moving World EP. Moving World EP by Syd Arthur. 8216;Faithles...

Real Gone: April 2011

Thursday, 28 April 2011. THE CLICK FIVE - TCV. Man Gilby Clarke and power pop icon Kyle Vincent. They found a replacement in vocalist Kyle Patrick, a man who personally knew the band, but allegedly didn’t care for their music (see, I wasn’t the only one! The slight new wave influences that crept into The Click Five’s music was a welcome addition. Things definitely seemed to be improving. 8217;, The Click Five show they’re equally adept both styles. Sharp harmonies and rhythms drive ‘Way B...8217; ‘...

Real Gone: March 2011
http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 March 2011. CRYSIS - Insane EP. Crysis are a five piece metalcore band from Oxford and within seconds of hitting the play button on their debut EP ‘Insane’, they’re ready to hit you with their musical juggernaut. The three songs are loaded with plenty of heavy riffs, but looking at the harsh black and white artwork and band name, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone. Visit Crysis on Facebook here. And on MySpace here. Tuesday, 29 March 2011. Pains of being pure at heart. BRIAN...

Real Gone: October 2010
http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 29 October 2010. UB40 - Signing Off. Original pressings of the LP came with a bonus 12” single ( the three songs from which are included on all CD pressings as bonus tracks. Despite UB40’s later faults, it needs to be remembered that ‘Signing Off’ is a fantastic debut album, even though couple of the instrumental numbers feel rather like filler material. It is, perhaps, one of the most important debut releases by a British band. Wednesday, 27 October 2010. STRANGEWAYS - Perfect World. When the ne...

Real Gone: GLENN HUGHES - Addiction
http://realgonerocks.blogspot.com/2010/02/glenn-hughes-addiction.html
Saturday, 27 February 2010. GLENN HUGHES - Addiction. Having heard his previous solo works, ‘From Now On.’ and ‘Feel’, I had a pre-conceived idea of what to expect when I first put ‘Addiction’ into the CD player. Those pre-conceptions were quickly blown away. The funky influence present throughout ‘Feel’ had gone and the melodic rock edges of ‘From Then On.’ had been toughened up considerably. 8216;Not Your Slave’ is a little lighter. With its solid slightly funky bassline, it could’ve ea...Glenn deserve...
