Here's the plan: try to get out of Guatemala City with my life and belongings; spend about a week at Long Way Home doing some sort of construction most likely; do a trek thru the Cuchamatanes Mountains of the western highlands; do some travel/working along a loop on the western slope in the coffee growing region; return to Xela for some volunteer work with kids; do more of the same outside Antigua on my way back to the airport. We'll see how it works out.

Saturday, December 17, 2011. Back Among the Living. Things could have been worse. I´m staying with wonderful family and Doña Alicia rubbed my feet, back and chest with alcohol and camphor, got me extra blankets and generally babied me. She had some flu medicine that really helped the 2nd day and lots of teas for this or that. I´ve been up and about for the last 2 days but still weak and loose - no more details, please. Time to get out of the city - feeling better today and tired of reading trashy novels (well actually, I kinna like em), Heading west towards coffee country and plan on spending about a week and a half working on 1 or 2 small farms. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. I think I found a hotbed of communists. Are we still looking for them? Send lawyer, guns and money. Despite the language barrier (an understatement for sure) I had a great chat with the gentleman whose home I was taking my meals. It ranged from consumerism to health care and foreign policy. Saturday, December 3, 2011. Hanging in coffee country. Headed out of Xela about a half hour to an organic coffee-growing community only to find that this is not a hotspot on the volunteer circuit which suits me rather well. Got nice digs and 2 meals a day with a local family. Help with the coffee processing in the morning and maybe a little in the afternoon.
