Changing Horses in the Middle of the Stream | Mark's Musings

https://markbowers.wordpress.com/2015/05/28/changing-horses-in-the-middle-of-the-stream

Changing Horses in the Middle of the Stream. So look for my blog to become quite a bit more active in these days as I share the ponderings of a church musician turned preacher. A song lyric or two will still find their way into my thoughts and hence my writings, but look for the song of God’s word to be at the forefront from now on. I’ve had a Sunday or two to try out this new horse. He’s a pretty good ride! Response to “Changing Horses in the Middle of the Stream”. Feed for this Entry.

June | 2015 | Mark's Musings

https://markbowers.wordpress.com/2015/06

Archive for June, 2015. Knowing Jesus: The Secret to Really Living. This is the morning sermon from May 24 that I preached at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Lincolnton, GA. The text is taken from John 17:1-21 and here is a synopsis of the sermon. Have you ever asked yourself, What is the purpose for it all? The verse that I want to focus on is verse 3. In that verse Jesus says,. This is life eternal, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. In John 10:10 Jesus said,.

Choices | Mark's Musings

https://markbowers.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/choices

8220;Choices” was preached at Calvary Baptist Church, Dearing, Georgia on May 31, 2015. Central idea: Everything that we do in life, no matter how great or how seemingly insignificant it is, begins with a choice. In every choice we make, we need to choose for God. Choices, we make them every day. Some of them have little if any bearing on how our lives play out: shall I wear the plaid shirt or the striped one? The khaki pants or the dress slacks? Will breakfast be toast and bacon and eggs or cereal?

This is My Story! This Is My Song! | Mark's Musings

https://markbowers.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/this-is-my-story-this-is-my-song

This is My Story! This Is My Song! 8220;This Is My Story! This Is My Song! 8221; was preached on June 7 in the morning service at Bethesda Baptist Church in Harlem, Georgia. The Psalmist understood this truth. Read Psalm 126. That line of thinking makes sense to me because the beginning of this Psalm tells a story. The Psalm-writer says, When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion. What does it say? When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion we were like those who dream. That was their s...

Finding Unison | Mark's Musings

https://markbowers.wordpress.com/2012/08/21/finding-unison

It also takes a while to tune relationships within a church. The larger the church, the larger the task of tuning the relationships so that they make a pleasant sound when they are all sounding together. It takes time to build relationships. Then on top of that, all of these “unisons” have to be the right distance apart from all of the other “unisons” on the piano. They have to be in a right relationship. All of this tuning starts with one pitch that never wavers. That pitch is the tuning fork. T...So wh...

I was wondering the other day, why it is that we turn pop figures into idols? Posted by Morris at 10:07 AM. Monday, December 19, 2005. I'm not really sure, but it probably relates to one of my favorite ministry encounters I'll share below. Ever said something profound without trying to? Thats enough to think about for now. http://momosmusings.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Thoughts on worship, ministry, and life from a Baptist Minister of Music. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Musings Whose Opinion Matters? The Scriptures allude to just about every approach to worship there is: organized, spontaneous, public, private, simple, complex, ornate or plain. Yet there is no comment anywhere about any one way being preferred over another. Rather, it is the spiritual condition of the worshiper that determines whether or not God is at work. Stephen Charnock, 1628-1680). Sure He can. ...

Momo's Musings: March 2006

Thoughts on worship, ministry, and life from a Baptist Minister of Music. Wednesday, March 22, 2006. The Power of the Cross. Perhaps it’s because we know that adding new people to any group means that things will change. I want to say the same thing when others say that hymns are a thing of the past. Both assumptions are wrong, narrow-minded, and ill-informed. In remembering His sufferings we contemplate just what it took to accomplish our salvation. That’s enough to think about for now (hymn follows).

Thoughts on worship, ministry, and life from a Baptist Minister of Music. Thursday, August 24, 2006. Kudos to Lexar Media and to Horizon Music, Inc. Usually I just post the same article I write for my rehearsal handouts on Wednesday evenings and leave it at that. I had an experience this morning that needs to be made known. Since I had just bought a new drive with 8 times the capacity for $10 less. The bottom line is that all ll I have to do is to send the drive back to them at my cost (and how much ...

Matter and thought are a canvas on which God paints, a painting with tragedy and delivery, with sin and redemption. Life is a dance toward God. And so with toilsome labor I seek to iron out the faithless creases in my own life. Posted by Morris at 9:38 AM. Friday, January 20, 2006. Food for thought: The Silly War. Mark's Musings | Thoughts on worship, music and life

Was the evening message at Bethesda Baptist Church in Harlem Georgia on June 7, 2015. The text is taken from Psalm 126 and Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. In my previous blog post we considered Psalm 126. Now we are going to break that verse down a little bit more in light of Matthew 13:1-9. The Task of the Sower. The Psalmist said,. He that goeth forth. Behold the sower went out to sow;. In Jesus’ parable it says the man was a sower before it says he. Went out to sow. The Tears of the Sower? The Psalmist said,.
