Motown Mysteries: Happy Holidays
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2016/12/happy-holidays.html
Sunday, December 18, 2016. 8216;Twas the week before Christmas. Snow covered so much of the Michigan landscape, it’s as if Mother Nature was thoroughly pissed off at humanity. Those brave of heart were facing the conditions head on, trudging through drifts and bitter winds in pursuit of that perfect, elusive holiday gift. Others who lived for weather like this were reveling in this frozen Xanadu, bundled up against the elements, riding sleds and skis and snowmobiles. I’ll save that for Christmas Eve.

Motown Mysteries: August 2016
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 28, 2016. Recently we were talking about how the simplest thing can trigger an idea for a story. To give an example, I shared this tale. While in college, I took a creative writing class. The professor was also the editor for the school’s literary magazine. He often encouraged several of us to submit pieces for consideration. A few of us did and were pleasantly surprised when they were selected for publication. Nothing was inspiring me. 8220;It was a dark and stormy night.”. I sat there fo...

Motown Mysteries: Hope For The Best
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2017/01/hope-for-best.html
Sunday, January 1, 2017. Hope For The Best. Greetings and Happy New Year. The other day I happened to see a clip from Mel Brooks when he received the Kennedy Center award a few years ago. There was a musical tribute to many of the songs he’s written. One line goes “Hope for the best. Expect the worst.”. So naturally that got me thinking. What happens when I write my characters into a corner? Do I give up? Do I wait for divine intervention? Hope for the best, but expect the worst. A Jefferson Chene Mystery.

Motown Mysteries: September 2016
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 25, 2016. At this week’s meeting of the writer’s group, we listened to the latest efforts of Annette, one of the gang’s bright stars. Her story continues to draw all of us in with her descriptive narration. But when it comes to dialog, she’s been having difficulty getting the flow right. And it can be used in the background, add to a subplot. Sometimes I’ve even skipped lengthy paragraphs of narration to get to the ‘juicy’ parts where the characters are interacting. This was not the pla...

Motown Mysteries: Snowy Nights
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2017/01/snowy-nights.html
Saturday, January 7, 2017. It’s the new year and in many parts of the country, Old Man Winter is making his presence felt. There was even a blurb on the national news the other night that Atlanta Georgia was bracing for three inches of snow, which might even lead to the schools being closed. Up here, we call that a dusting. But all this winter weather got me thinking about my favorite redheaded character, Jamie Richmond. Geez, what a difference he was. He seemed to like my body just fine. And he ...When ...

Motown Mysteries: July 2016
http://motownmysteries.blogspot.com/2016_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 31, 2016. Interview with Jamie Richmond. Not so long ago, someone wanted to know how one of my characters would respond if they were being interviewed. So when I asked which character they were interested in and what specifically they wanted to know. They asked about Jamie and provided the following list of questions. Tell us a little about yourself. How did you come to your author’s attention? I recently sold my first novel and I’m working on my next one. What drew you to them? That I’...

My hands worked and...
