The Portal to Narnia. October 13, 2015. The cats keep trying to get into the grate on the wall. They think it’s Narnia or something. I’m beginning to believe them. So we hacked the frame out of the plaster leaving a jagged hole. Stripped the paint off of it, fixed up the torn plaster and had a friend make a new cover based on a design borrowed from another grate in the house. Painted the whole thing black. What a difference! January 26, 2015. The interior used to be green. I mean everywhere. We’ve found green paint on the ceiling, the floor, all the walls, cabinets, doors. And most of it is splattered on the wood trim. The trim is almost entirely original and it is all heart pine, which was once stained a dark walnut and wood grained to look like oak. Now, about half the trim is stripped and shellacked clear leaving a honey pine colour. The other half is painted white, black or – you guessed it! Filed under century home.

The Kitchen Bugged Me. January 22, 2015. Planning a bright and expensive future kitchen I wanted some kind of quick face lift “for now”. I bought some 1×3 pine and some rope trim. Adding the pine and the trim to the doors, then painting them antique white made a HUGE difference! So we did the entire kitchen.
