Helga's Big Adventure: February 2007
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Sunday, February 25, 2007. If you feel like you're going to vomit, that's okay! That's what my spinning instructor told the class yesterday when she was making us do some hard, terrible things. Luckily, nobody did vomit, and I frankly wasn't nauseated. But the fact that I was in a class where the instructor expected nausea made me very happy. I know, I'm a freak. But I'm a medium-core freak who likes to pretend she's hardcore. Posted by Helga @ 4:04 PM. Last night and ...

Helga's Big Adventure: January 2007
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Mountain Goat Gym Rat. In in an attempt to get into mountain-goat shape for the big hike to Machu Picchu, Todd and I have joined a gym. Being in a small suburban town means that we had few choices, so Gold's Gym it was. Unlike Suzimusi. It's much healthier to just fume in silence. I also really enjoy the idea. Posted by Helga @ 7:43 PM. Wednesday, January 24, 2007. I know what can happen. I was cold (and, yes, I was wearing something more a...

Helga's Big Adventure: April 2007
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Friday, April 27, 2007. Several weeks of sleep deprivation and high stress at work have begun to take their toll. I am beginning, ever so slightly, to lose control of myself. For instance:. Just now, when driving home from work, someone cut in front of me. I had an urge, lasting only a few moments, to ram my car into her stupid, stupid car. The reason? Which are my new running shoes that seem to have magically fixed the problem with my IT band. I didn't think so. Today...

Helga's Big Adventure: Are you gonna eat that?
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-you-gonna-eat-that.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Monday, February 18, 2008. Are you gonna eat that? The other night, Todd and I were watching Fast Food Nation. A film adaptation of Eric Schlosser's fantastic book. By the same name. The movie was a little weird - it made fiction of non-fiction and, as is often the case, was not nearly as good as the book. The last scene is a graphic depiction of a "kill room" of a slaughterhouse that I could barely watch. What, did I forget to turn the movie off? I fear that most peop...

Helga's Big Adventure: May 2007
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Friday, May 25, 2007. We won't grow pot! Apparently there is a new trend: Landlords are increasingly seeing that properties they've rented out have been turned into marijuana grow rooms. This pretty much destroys the property. Todd and I have long considered ourselves great tenants, but now we have yet another reason: We won't turn our apartment into a grow room! Posted by Helga @ 12:56 PM. Tuesday, May 22, 2007. Mental Notes and Breadboxes. Luckily, we've also seen so...

Helga's Big Adventure: Ras na hEireann 5K
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2008/03/ras-na-heireann-5k.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Thursday, March 20, 2008. Ras na hEireann 5K. Do you have any idea about how to pronounce this? Because I certainly don't. But I (along with Dr. Bombay, of course) ran this race last Sunday. Along with something like 2700 other runners who were all squeezed into the narrow streets of my neighborhood for this Saint Patrick's Day run. That's a whole lotta. People. Here we all are:. Crowded. But I was probably still thinking about pushing someone out of my way.). View my ...

Helga's Big Adventure: G-pa
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2008/02/g-pa.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Tuesday, February 26, 2008. On Friday, February 22nd, my grandfather died. He was 93. I didn't get to say goodbye. Though, in some ways, I've been saying goodbye for years. His health had been declining and each time I saw him, I knew it could be the last. He was always an avid, loud nose-blower. When I was little, each time he blew his nose I would tell him that he "scared the wits out of me." He would laugh. It was our thing. Posted by Helga @ 5:28 PM. Are you gonna ...

Helga's Big Adventure: December 2006
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Wednesday, December 27, 2006. A Tale of Two Horses. But then the agent confessed his true intentions: They were all out of "regular cars" and had no choice but to upgrade us to something sporty. And they had 31 brand new convertibles in the garage. Luckily, the new Mustang does not look like the ugly 1989 monster. In fact, it looks good. Too good. I liked it. Dammit, Ford! I was in a Mustang, after all. Isn't that what they did? Ford is still on my shitlist, though.

Helga's Big Adventure: August 2006
http://helgablog.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
From the Bay Area to the Bay State. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. The following are reasons why I'm beginning to feel more settled in:. 1 The kitchen is fully unpacked. 2 Our collection of 37 boxes is becoming our collection of broken-down boxes that we need to ask someone from Craigslist to spirit away. 3 I've assembled multiple pieces of Ikea furniture, with little insult or injury to myself, the furniture, or innocent bystanders. Posted by Helga @ 6:57 PM. Sunday, August 27, 2006. On Friday, our furniture...
