Thursday, December 18, 2014. Are You on a Journey to Bethlehem? In this week before Christmas, as I continue to recover from surgery (talk about a LONG journey! I am pondering Mary's trip to Bethlehem. Some of you, like me, are on a difficult journey right now. You're stumbling along, heavy and weary. Take heart! Mary traveled a long way too, and sometimes the trip to Bethlehem, for her and for us, is a long one. Sometimes it's not easy ride to come to the place where Jesus is born anew in our lives.

Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Seeing God on the Diabetes Road. Well, this has certainly been a tough, life-changing week as my six-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, an irreversible, unpreventable, and incurable autoimmune disease where his immune system attacks and kills the cells in his pancreas that produce insulin. He now requires careful monitoring of his carb intake, blood sugar (several finger pokes a day), and insulin shots at least 4 times a day. And for a moment, I see hope again .

Tales of Wonder: When Life's a Puzzle

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. When Life's a Puzzle. Joelle turns 12 this week (where does the time go? And in honor of her I wanted to share a story from 10 years ago, when she was 2. She's always loved puzzles. So, for those times when life is puzzling, when the pieces aren't what you would have chosen, when the puzzle isn't so fun, here's a bit of wisdom I learned from my beautiful Joelle. Life as Pieces of the Puzzle. 8220;No, Sweetie, that doesn’t go there.”. Joelle studied the bright piece and frowned.

Tales of Wonder: Lessons from Camping - When Life is Dark and Scary

Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Lessons from Camping - When Life is Dark and Scary. We recently went camping for Joelle's birthday, and I was reminded of something I learned a few years ago when the twins were little. I learned that when it's dark and scary and things are new and different, to remember "Jesus here" and relax into the reality of the God who loves me and is near me. So, if you're going through a dark, scary time, here's some encouragement:. 8220;No, no, no! She sprung back up. I put on my pajamas a...

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Jayden's Advice on How to Be Strong. As I've been recovering from my big surgery these last few months, I've been thinking about what it means to get stronger, to be able to use muscles I haven't used well in years, for the core of who I am to be strong and solid and working as it should. I want that strength not only in my physical core, but also my spiritual one - the true core of my being! That's what I want for all of my life! For him, it didn’t matter that just that ...

Monday, November 24, 2014. Are You Blessed This Thanksgiving? As we think about Thanksgiving this week (at least for those in the US! I'm thinking about what it really means to be blessed. Here is something from WRESTLING WITH WONDER. To ponder as we consider gratefulness and blessedness, especially when we're not feeling so thankful, not feeling so blessed:. WHO IS THIS GOD OF BLESSING? So who is this God who takes what we think we know and redefines it? This is the God of reversals. 8212;Blessed are you.

Thursday, January 29, 2015. Trusting God for Today: It's All About the Map. In honor of Bryan's birthday coming up in a few days, I thought I'd share a lesson we learned together several years ago when we were traveling to Pennsylvania to learn how to build log homes. It would’ve been different if it weren’t nearly midnight, if I’d ever been in Baltimore before, or if we didn’t have a two-hour drive before us. But it was, and we hadn’t, and we did. I turned to Bryan and frowned. 8221; it asked. Bryan mad...

Wednesday, October 29, 2014. When Nightmares are Real. This week is Halloween, so I am thinking about those times we encounter when life seems like a nightmare-come-true. Times of darkness and pain and doubt and fear and horror. When prayers don't make things all better and when what we were so afraid would happen, does. I've been in that place. You maybe have too. You're maybe there now. Here's a short excerpt from WRESTLING WITH WONDER. WHEN NIGHTMARES COME TRUE. Excerpt from Wrestling with Wonder).
