marriage & millet: Guest Author: Michael Comes to Town

http://marriageandmillet.blogspot.com/2012/03/guest-author-michael-comes-to-town.html

Monday, March 19, 2012. Guest Author: Michael Comes to Town. Travel Warnings Be Damned. First things first: George and Anna are great, remain in wonderful spirits and look healthy. If you’re worried about their well-being, stop - there’s not much need. They’ve adopted well, have meaningful friendships, and know how to navigate daily life very well here. Now for my actual post:. 8221; was the standard response when I told people I was visiting Anna and George. Most Americans know next to nothing about.

marriage & millet: Silver Lining

http://marriageandmillet.blogspot.com/2012/05/silver-lining.html

Friday, May 11, 2012. Well, we're officially back at home in the USA after a whirlwind of traveling. After Peace Corps Mali was evacuated to Ghana, this is what we did:. Beach hostel near Butre, Ghana. 12'x12' tree house we rented. On the Rhein in Basel, Switzerland. The Rigi near Lake Lucerne. Out for a drive in my uncle's 'new' ride. 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III. The princess in her chariot (with throw pillows). My aunt and uncle took us on some wonderful tours of sites throughout German speaking Swite...

marriage & millet: Waiting...for now

http://marriageandmillet.blogspot.com/2012/04/waitingfor-now.html

Monday, April 2, 2012. For those volunteers who were in their respective villages at the time, they learned the news from texts messages or the radio, though their villages continued to go about their normal life. We have been in touch with our friends and host families in our village and they are all well and continue to be optimistic that we will be able to return as daily life and work in village continues to move forward. Thank you all for the prayers and concern. Posted by Anna and George. This is K...

marriage & millet: July 2011

http://marriageandmillet.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Posted by Anna and George. Sunday, July 3, 2011. Humble beginning of a tree nursery in our compound. Before coming here to Mali, I thought about how exciting it would be to come to a developing country and about all of the big projects I could do to revolutionize a developing community. Well, 5 months later, while I haven't figured it ALL out, I am here to tell you that was a little naive. 1 help you understand what we hope to accomplish in these two years. For the record: there AR...

marriage & millet: Where's Waldo?

http://marriageandmillet.blogspot.com/2012/04/wheres-waldo.html

Tuesday, April 24, 2012. After weeks of silence, rest assured we are safe and sound. Unfortunately our time in Mali ended prematurely due to continued instability. Leaving was so hard, that explanation is a blog post we are not yet ready to compose. However, leaving was the best decision as the current situation in country did not allow for us to do the work we came to do effectively or safely. We just might show up at your house. Mostly Minnesotan: The Fifteen Foot Christmas Tree

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-fifteen-foot-christmas-tree.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Saturday, December 8, 2012. The Fifteen Foot Christmas Tree. I grew up with artificial trees and I love them. Through all of our moves I have moved the six foot tree I got my first year after college. I love that tree because I can put it up myself and I have the exact right number of decorations for it and they all fit in one rubbermaid box. Calhoun does not like my artificial tree so much. That same night we rearranged all the furniture in our living room, a...

Mostly Minnesotan: Every Dog is OK

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/12/every-dog-is-ok.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Saturday, December 8, 2012. Every Dog is OK. Calhoun hunts. Just in case you didn't know. I am learning about hunting, but mostly I am a suburban kid, without skills or instinct, who has found herself simply trying to keep up with the vocabulary and what is in season this week. The word I added to my vocabulary today: " snare. Vasa was caught in a snare.". Vasa did not struggle. Vasa did not pull the metal snare tighter around his neck. Vasa laid for minutes i...

Mostly Minnesotan: Happy Holidays from Sogn and Vasa

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/12/happy-holidays-from-sogn-and-vasa.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Saturday, December 1, 2012. Happy Holidays from Sogn and Vasa. The holidays means photographs for the annual holiday card! So, here are the puppy out-takes (the people out-takes are so terrible they are not suitable for the blog):. Poor hunting dogs, their noses are working overtime. This was just distraction. Vasa tends to look like a crazy. Ps photos taken by Red and Swan who made the drive to visit us a few weekends ago! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Mostly Minnesotan: I Shot a Handgun

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/10/i-shot-handgun.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Sunday, October 7, 2012. I Shot a Handgun. I shot a handgun last week for the first time. To be honest, I've always been a little afraid of guns. I grew up in the suburbs and have never been around guns and haven't had a lot of education about how they work. I had never seen a gun in person until I met Calhoun and came up north to his house for the first time. Labels: Living in Crookston. December 2, 2012 at 9:43 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Mostly Minnesotan: Nordic Heritage Museum #9

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/12/nordic-heritage-museum-9.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Saturday, December 1, 2012. Nordic Heritage Museum #9. I began teaching myself how to knit a few years ago. I never made it to a knitting class, instead I watched some online tutorials and invested in knitting books. I bought a few basics books to help me understand how stitches worked and how to solve problems and a few books with pattersn. When we move my knitting books take up a box! I finally finished and wore them and they are AWESOME! I feel like I have ...

Mostly Minnesotan: About Harriet

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Ok - so back to me. Not Harriet. I'm not actually going to tell you my name but with a few quick Internet searches you could certainly figure it out so I'm not that worried about it. In addition to getting an education, learning stuff and making friends I also met my husband, Calhoun, at college. We got married a few years ago and lived in an adorable bungalow in Minneapolis, got a dog who we named Sogn and drove our hatchback around the cities while we bo...

Mostly Minnesotan: Hibernation

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2013/01/hibernation.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Life has been pretty great up here in the northwest. Work has been busy and rewarding every day, the weekends have been filled with knitting projects and I've put a lot of treadmill miles on the awesome running shoes I got for Christmas. And, there's always a furry creature around to snuggle up with. The blog will probably be back in the spring, hopefully filled with new adventures. WARNING: This comedy is most definitely not. Mostly Minnesotan: Introducing Vasa!

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/09/introducing-vasa.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Monday, September 17, 2012. A few weeks ago, when we were feeling really down about living in the basement and still not having a house of our own, we rebelled by doing something really irresponsible. We bought a second dog. To his credit, Calhoun did a ton of research, met dogs and watched bird dog trials. When I mentioned that I wanted an adult dog, not a puppy, he zeroed in on a trainer in South Carolina who was training dogs from a line he really liked.

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Is my mother-in-law, Calhoun's mom. Bemidji is from North Dakota but has been in Minnesota, doing many Minnesota things, since college. Is my niece, the daughter of Nokomis and Eveleth. She's four months old, and is now bigger than a blueberry! Is a friend from college and a great sailor. She's married to the D.D.S. and they live in the neighborhood! Is my sister-in-law, Nokomis' wife. She is from the Iron Range and is generally awesome. Is my father-in-law, C...

Mostly Minnesotan: Oh hello, fandom

http://mostlyminnesotan.blogspot.com/2012/03/oh-hello-fandom.html

Living and Loving Life in the Land of Lakes. Thursday, March 15, 2012. Oh hello, fandom. I've been absent from the blog for a while. My absence is partially because I find that when I get behind on posts it becomes really hard for me to catch up, and it's also because I've just been busy! Blueberry, so wonderful! I've also been meaning to write about my knitting. I finished my first pair of selbu mittens, from the book Selbuvotter: Biography of a Knitting Tradition. So, I guess that's all good news right?

Marriage and Medicine | On Life, On Faith, On Call

On Life, On Faith, On Call. Hold It in Your Stomach. It sounds weird translated into English, but my parents would tell me (in Vietnamese) that there were times you should hold your opinion–or knowledge about someone or a situation–in your stomach. Essentially, keep whatever it is to yourself. Don’t lose face. Don’t throw someone under the bus. Don’t let others know that you were somehow privy to the delicate details. Unfortunately tonight, I’m full, and I threw up my humble pie. I’m proud of my hu...

Marriage and Migration

Native British men who want English, Scottish, etc, children are in an inferior position vis-a-vis other men because they can only live in one country (outside the EU). Foreigners have the choice of two countries by marrying someone with permanent residence in the UK. Please see http:/ jeremy-passmore.blogspot.com. Saturday, 7 January 2017. Much is made of British Values - They need to be looked at. Plus, think of the bureaucracy (= public money) involved in all these appeals! Is exploited by foreigners ...

Marriage and Money Matters

Marriage and Money Matters. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Money As A Means Of Social Connection. For every level of income, there are expected levels of social engagement. When we lack the basic resources to be able to engage at our "appropriate" level, we feel a disconnection from our community. We may not be able to fully articulate what or why we are feeling disconnected, but there is a deep awareness of not being able to participate in "standard" social commitments of our social class. Instead of alway...
