Quick wit. Fast fingers. Corny jokes no extra charge. April 9, 2012. Weird news o' the day. Maybe it’s just me, but there’s nothing I like more than a niche dating site, especially one that caters to a particularly obscure slice of singles. In the past, I’ve written about green dating sites. Like GreenSingles.com, which caters to the eco-friendly crowd, and DarwinDating.com. Thanks to a recent story on CNN.com. That’s why a site called Survivalist Singles has entered the online dating scene, cateri...

Lessons I learned from the Sea: Part II. March 10, 2014. You have to remember this isn’t your land. It belongs to no one, like the sea you once lived beside. And thought was yours. Remember the small boats that bobbed out as the waves rode in, and the men who carved a living from it only to find themselves carved down to nothing. Now you say this is home, so go ahead, worship the mountains as they dissolve in dust, wait on the wind, catch a scent of salt, call it our life. – Our Valley. When first learni...

February 27, 2014. Not till we are lost, in other words not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations. One of the greatest adventures of my life thus far. Found me not long after one of my lowest, most desperate, periods of being well- utterly lost. I feel a little silly sharing but you won’t judge me, right? When I turned 25, I went through a pretty drastic quarter life crisis: it was ugly; it was full of self pity; I fe...

April 1, 2014. 8220;We are torn between a nostalgia for the familiar and an urge for the foreign and strange. As often as not, we are homesick most for the places we have never known.” Carson McCullers. I’ve been home for a little over a year now and my gypsy soul is beginning to stir. Each time the wind begins to change I feel myself longing to be swept away with the dust towards my next brush with adventure. On The Wild Side. March 21, 2014. Where The Wild Things Are. Bruno was a macho type. He was...

His true colors came out when the jovenes. Came over to drink beer at the hacienda. Bruno, you borracho! Cried the jovenes- laughing and mocking the drunk monkey tossing the empty cups back at him. Bruno, not one to be mocked, scowled down at the crowd from his perch. The kids were still laughing, but Bruno didn’t miss a beat an...

The Long and Short of It. Friday, May 18, 2012. No more teachers, no more books. I cannot believe today is the last day of school for the kiddos in my district. It's been a wonderful year. I'm so proud of my Kindergardener and am excited to spend the summer with her (without having to set an alarm! For working moms summer can also be a logistical nightmare. Camps? Activities to keep them stimulated? Television as a babysitter? I'll welcome any tweets of encouragement during the 6-7am hour @MamaSleeveShirt.
