Welcome to Marsden Band. Yorkshire Regional 1st Section Champions 2017. We are a Championship Brass Band based in the village of Marsden, nestled in the Pennines just a couple of miles from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. We are proud to have a heritage which spans over 125 years, and so have seen many different facets of local life including marches, wars, textile mills, weddings and cuckoos! Working at the pit. Marsden Inn and Grotto. Welcome to the Marsden Banner Group website. Marsden Lodge represented the men who worked at Whitburn Colliery (Also known as Marsden Colliery). The Whitburn Coal Company began sinking Marsden Colliery in 1874. Coal production started in 1882. In 1891 the Whitburn Coal Company hit financial difficulties and the colliery was absorbed into the Harton Coal Company. The colliery closed in 1968 the final shift came up from the shaft bottom on 7th June.
