Sabbatical 2008: Lahore & the border closing ceremony

http://martinharrison.blogspot.com/2008/06/lahore-border-closing-ceremony.html

Tuesday, 24 June 2008. Lahore and the border closing ceremony. We travelled to Lahore yesterday (20th) and saw the Gadaffi Cricket Stadium where Pakistan play cricket (a religion here). I was ill on the bus, had the runs and was sick. TERRIBLE! I went straight to bed and only surfaced today at 4:30. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I have been married to my lovely wife Jan for over 25 years. We have two great daughters Katie and Sarah! View my complete profile. St Mary's Church, Strensall, York.

Sabbatical 2008: Darwin to Alice Springs

http://martinharrison.blogspot.com/2008/08/darwin-to-alice-springs.html

Tuesday, 12 August 2008. Darwin to Alice Springs. Getting to Oz (6th) has been another culture shock. Leaving behind the rice and noodles and cheap food of Indonesia and Asia generally, to be served a beef pie on the plane to Darwin (delicious) and then experience the reality of having to pay a proper price for your meal. We have seen some interesting pieces of water while being here. Edith Falls was a great place to swim but we were warned about salties! Catching pieces of meat dangled from a rope).

Sabbatical 2008: Final leg to Sydney

http://martinharrison.blogspot.com/2008/08/finally-sydney.html

Saturday, 30 August 2008. Final leg to Sydney. 18th August. Since the last blog we have completed our travelling through the length of Australia! 11th August we travelled to the world famous Kings Canyon. 12th to Ayres Rock and seeing the sunset on Uluru. The 13th started with a 5am awakening to see the sun rise on Uluru! We also visited the Olgas, a group of rocks very near to Uluru and equally impressive. The other nights have been in hostels. The 17th was the final leg, leaving Adelaide and going via ...

Sabbatical 2008: India

http://martinharrison.blogspot.com/2008/06/india.html

Friday, 27 June 2008. The highlights and lowlights of the first week in India has been the great contrast between the countryside and hills and the filth and pollution of the cities. We have also faced a lot of illness with another two of us being admitted to hospital in Delhi with the dreaded Delhi belly! The Golden Temple in Amritsar (22nd) was another breathtaking stop where we saw the kitchens and food production machine in full swing. The Temple produces 15,000 free meals every day! The camp was gre...

Sabbatical 2008: Taj Mahal

http://martinharrison.blogspot.com/2008/06/taj-mahal.html

Sunday, 29 June 2008. June 28th. The Taj Mahal at 6am, a wonderful sight. The Taj Mahal itself was smaller that I thought it would be, but a very peaceful experience. The biggest hustle was to get a photo on the Princess Diana seat - I managed to get one. We explore Varanasi today and tomorrow. We have played a naughty game to pass away the time on the bus, counting the number of people we see peeing in the street, we had quite a number after 18 hours! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Evergreen: I'm not here

http://royfenn.blogspot.com/2009/12/im-not-here.html

Saturday, 12 December 2009. Extract from "Life" Dig a Hole: Part 1 (2007). So they must know everything is in motion, and the particles within everything are never in one place. Therefore, if it's never in one place, it never is, is it? So I'm always in motion. I'm never in one place. I'm never here. Just more likely to be here than not to be here. To Reese] I'm not here. You like that, don't you? If only that were true. If you've never seen Life. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Contact me on BBM.

http://royfenn.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, 17 August 2009. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the first of the series I've seen at the cinema, the rest I've watched previously on DVD. You can't deny they're engaging stories, good versus evil, good people wear white and get hurt, bad people wear black and get the best lines. Maybe I should read the books now. Recently, I was lent a copy of The Shack. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mary Ann Bottomley 1865-1906. Jon Palmer Acoustic Band–The Cottage, 10/07/16. My god, its full of stars.

Wednesday, 7 August 2013. Its a Prog life. Saturday July 20th. We leave a bright sunny lunchtime in Sheffield as Ian and I descend into the Sheffield City Hall for the Tramlines festival. But we stay in the Ballroom to see seven bands starting with Maybeshewill. Followed by Enochian Theory. And ending with headliners Amplifier. Moody like Editors and Joy Division,.

Saturday, 27 February 2010. 163;8 = Fabulous. My first experience of 3D film was over 10 years ago at Disneyworld in Florida, a show case of the technology lasting around 10 minutes. Seemingly there were objects flying towards and around you, and even though you know its not real, you still react by moving out of the way. Fun enough to make everyone smile. http://royfenn.blogspot.com/2014/06/black-swan-mini-folk-festival.html

Monday, 9 June 2014. Black Swan mini Folk festival. I only attended on the Sunday evening of the 3 day festival. My highlights were: Blackbeard's Tea Party. Nergetic live band; the soft and thoughtfull songs from Holly Taymar and Chris Bilton. Nion Jill sang lovely harmonies, highlighted the cause for women to be allowed to drive in Saudia Arabia and requested to be targets of paper airplanes during one song; Angela Gordon. Alternating with Linds on lead flute in Leather'O; and two songs from Sarah Dean.

Wednesday, 16 September 2009. Under) Covers and Classics. Two family camping trips at the end of August wrapped up the summer holidays. The first 4 nights based at Highburn. Evergreen: January 2009

http://royfenn.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, 15 January 2009. First of all 2 films set in Japan. Memoirs of a Geisha. Set in the 1930/40's its a beautifully shot story of a young girl raised to become a Geisha. It reminded me of The Hidden Blade. A film I'd seen sometime in 2008. Both stories are about honour, service and obediance, and of course love. Of the two I prefer The Hidden Blade - its story is more subtle. Which has made me think about my attitudes to the world around me. Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Friday, 2 January 2009.

My interest in collecting medals, or Ordecomedology, as it is unofficially known, began in the early 1970s when as an Air Cadet attending various parades during the year, Armistice Day, Battle of Britain and others I became intrigued by the colourful pieces of material hanging from men’s chests!
