Essentially scratch-building a model of the Soviet Salyut 7 space station presented a nice challenge in utilizing mixed media of resin casts, photo-etched parts, foiling, and styrene plastic. The end result is featured below. And candy foils were used. Another view of the Salyut 7 model. A Y view of the Salyut 7 model. Dragon has also a...

A 1966 Grumman Corp Illustration of a LM Taxi Concept. Two vehicles were envisioned: 1) a LM "truck" that carried a shelter (like the Shelab from a previous installment) and 2) a LM "taxi". The goal of the ALSS program was to utilize an architecture that would allow astronauts to stay on the lunar surface for up to 14 days. A few years a...

Blog spot dedicated to the craft of modeling real or factual designed spacecraft. Monday, June 1, 2015. Ohio Valley Spaceport Update. My apologies to all of you regarding the lengthy delay in posting any new material here on this blog. Changing priorities, travel, and attempting to sell off part of my model collection have basically taken time away from any new or current modeling projects to showcase here. Blog spot dedicated to the craft of modeling real or factual designed spacecraft. Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Revell 1/12 Scale Gemini Astronaut. One of the oddities of my space model collection is the 1/12 scale Gemini Astronaut in Space kit. There were four space walks performed during the Gemini program (Gemini 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12.) Each EVA suit was slightly different. The Revell kit is closer to the first American EVA by Astronaut Ed White in 1965. My 1/12 Gemini Astronaut. Other EVA Astronaut kits.

Blog spot dedicated to the craft of modeling real or factual designed spacecraft. Friday, March 21, 2014. 1/144 Scale Manned Launchers: Atlas and Gemini/Titan. Certainly the 1/144 scale space stations reflect that direction. Cost is another consideration. The folks at Crow's Nest, Fantastic Plastic, and New Ware offer exquisitely detailed kits in 1/48 and 1/32 but, the drawback is the price (though fair) and with that price level of work to do them justice. I came across a nice 1/144 scale Gemini/Titan k...
