Martin's Sussex Birding Blog

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog. Monday, 17 August 2015. I was just arriving at Seaford when an alert came up for a Red-backed Shrike on the Cuckmere, just south of the Visitors Centre. It was only a few minutes away and too good a chance to miss, although it sounded as though it was on the main route down to the beach, so would soon be busy with day trippers. The bird was flushed from a perch giving clear views and with good light to a barbed wire fence where it was part concealed by the long grass. Fortun...

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog: August 2014

http://www.martinsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog. Wednesday, 27 August 2014. Pulborough Brooks Brown Hairstreak. A disappointing days birding. The promised brighter skies did not turn up and neither did the birds. It was one of those dull, overcast and oppressive days, not good for photography and very little bird song, the birds don't seem to like them either. It looked a possibility but we will never know as did not come close enough to confirm the distinguishing features. Comma - It looks normal from the top view. So ano...

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog: June 2014

http://www.martinsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog. Thursday, 26 June 2014. With it still looking very quiet on the birding front we were out looking for Butterflies and Dragonflies again today. First stop was Hollingbury Park in Brighton for another go at the White-letter Hairtreaks. The result was similar to Tuesday in Preston Park. We could see the Hairstreaks at the top of the tree but they were not coming down to have their photographs taken. Hover Fly - Chrysotoxum bicinctum. Dark Bush Cricket - Pholidoptera griseoptera.

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog: May 2015

http://www.martinsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog. Sunday, 31 May 2015. A recent holiday with the family in North Devon proved to be very enjoyable, if just a bit frustrating as far as bird watching went. Still, there's always something to look at and in flight shots of the Ravens and Fulmars from the local cliffs proved to be one of the best attractions. And with a tasty morsel of food! Plenty of Grey Wagtails about. And juvenile Grey Wagtails. And even younger Grey Wagtails. Rock Pipits in the coastal steams. My first circ...

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog: September 2014

http://www.martinsbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Martin's Sussex Birding Blog. Tuesday, 30 September 2014. I searched most of the fields to the south of Marsh Farm but there was no sign of the Cattle Egret. The main interest here was the large mixed flocks of Corvids, with Rooks, Crows and Jackdaws gathered in the trees and with the huge volume of noise they were making. Chill out boys it's a large pool. Thursday, 25 September 2014. I had to make a trip up to Horsham today and with an hour to spare I thought I would call into Warnham LNR for a quick lo...
