This past week a bunch of Volunteers and I from the Segou region jumped in a mini-bus and took a 5 hour ride to a fellow Volunteer's site in Dogofry, north of Segou. She had organized an AIDS awareness bike tour and asked other Volunteers to come up and help spread the good news about a terrible disease. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). S is for SIDA.

I can definitely relate to being disappointed in myself for not having figured out the local cultural quirks yet! I just cant let go of that US quirk of keeping compromises and assuming other people will, too. Ha. Thanks for sharing. Many saludos and well wishes from Guatemala! Matt in West Africa (Mali): July 2010
http://mattinwestafrica.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Matt in West Africa (Mali). Note: content is solely the opinion of the author and does not represent Peace Corps. Monday, July 26, 2010. A Rainy Friday in Village. We've had a decent dry spell in village considering that it's supposed to be prime time for rain. The last few weeks have brought clouds, wind, lighting, and thunder, but no rain. This means most people have been sitting around a lot waiting for the rains to show up so they can plant millet. The young men ate at the butiki and the kids ate at ...

Sahel-O to my little friend!
http://sahel-o.blogspot.com/2010/07/well-we-are-back-in-mali-after-couple.html
Sahel-O to my little friend! The semi-literate ramblings of a man on the brink of the Sahara. Monday, July 19, 2010. Well, we are back in Mali after a couple of weeks trekking across West Africa. Here was our original plan:. Step 1- Get on a bus to Ghana. Step 2- Get off the bus at the beach in Ghana. Step 3- Relax (10 days). Step 4- Return to Mali. As I look at my plan now I realize how naive I was to believe it could be that simple. Here's how it really went. It's in Sierra Leone. We landed in Sier...

I'm from Washington STATE: One Pull Up. Just one.
http://emilyinwashington.blogspot.com/2011/01/one-pull-up-just-one.html
Friday, January 21, 2011. One Pull Up. Just one. Okay, so I know you all think I'm super strong and sometimes super human, but what you don't know is that I've never done a pull up IN MY LIFE. Once, in middle school, I jumped up to the bar during the fitness test and so the momentum allowed me to appear to have done a pull up and my P.E. teacher didn't see me jump so he thought I did one. So, on my fitness test form that year, under pullups, it said "1." Which was a lie. Posted by Emily Doerr.

As you can imagine, neither of these documentaries do much to create a mood of happiness and joy. Rather, they are much the opposite, and present a message of how ridiculous and terrible humanity can be sometimes. It got me to thinking about my present situation and the world in general.
