Mary Anne's Portland Oregon Travel Blog. Thursday, December 11, 2008. Sunday starts the opening of Peacock Lane for the 2008 season. Opening day will be car free. The street will be blocks to traffic. Pedestrians will not have to deal with cars while enjoying the light displays. Peacock Lane has been my favorite place to look at Christmas lights since I was a little kid. I feel the Christmas magic like a little kid when I go there to see the lights. Which means that it is time to go visit Swan Island Dahlias. The fields that are open August 1st through September 2009, 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. Stroll through over 40 acres of dahlias in full bloom. Lots of free parking and picnic tables. Indoor Display Hours 10 am to 6 pm, Field Hours 8am to 8pm.
