The birth story is pretty traumatic, really. Eventually, I realized my contractions were probably really kind of close together. I don't remember by now if I woke my husband or if he woke up. I just plugged my phone in and while I was messing with the cord, my kid rolled over. So I held my breath and counted to twenty. The crib is still fourteen inches from my side of the bed. She will be potty trained before she's weaned or sleeping all night in such a way that I don't have to participate. I'm almost certain. Independence is a funny thing. I emptied this Appalachian basket of the dog toys and the cat has claimed it for himself. Growing up, we kept it full of shoes by our front door.

Yesterday she spent twenty minutes silently playing with the texture of the couch. It was super cute. At not yet 2 pm, it is 89*F (about 32*C) inside my house right now. The 9am Nap Today. Awake with hands in her mouth. No rest for baby. In the middle of naptime. Rocking in the chair. Together in the dark room. Sleep would improve this. Sleep is for suckers. Baby happy without rest. Mom's not in on it. In my lap on my right arm. This baby is heavy. Finally she's sound asleep. And I'm complaining. Please do tell me if I messed up any syllable counts. I have an accent and a sleep deficit, so it seems likely.). And now I need to go sit on the floor and play with a baby.

She's through surgery and is expected to be home tomorrow! The last couple of days, I've said to my husband that the dog was stressed out by the baby following her around and by the way I keep putting up random barriers for the baby. I mentioned trying to herd the dog onto the couch and bed, or else trying to keep her on the other side of a barrier. He mentioned how the gate blocking the litter box got moved from a closet to the bedroom door and how she sleeps on that bed during the day. Fri, May 30, 2014.
