Monday, April 06, 2009. 2 Weeks in Mexico. So I spent 2 weeks in Mexico at the end of January, and it was great. Instead of blogging here, I will just post them in Picasaweb, because it's much easier :). Here's the album: http:/ picasaweb.google.com/mshimizu/Mexico? At 4/06/2009 02:44:00 PM. Mas' Blog: Krakow, Poland on Easter
http://mshimizu.blogspot.com/2008/04/krakow-poland-on-easter.html
Sunday, April 06, 2008. Krakow, Poland on Easter. For the Easter weekend in Germany, the Friday and Monday are public holidays. So I went with a few friends to Krakow, Poland. This is a very beautiful city in southern Poland, about 500km east of Dresden. We rented a car, and headed off on Friday morning. Unfortunately, winter finally decided to show up during the long weekend. This is the first time I've seen accumulated snow since I've been in Germany. And those familiar evil golden arches. The St. ...

Mas' Blog: June 2007
http://mshimizu.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 26, 2007. I decided to take a bike ride this Sunday along the Elbe river towards the Czech Republic. I ended up biking 40km round trip to a town called Pirna that's 20km away. Maybe I'll bike to the Czech border some weekend. It's probably about a 50 to 60km bike ride to the border, which isn't that bad. And I can always take the train back to Dresden. Can you believe that Bunte Republik Neustadt was here last week? It looks so different. Entering Pirna, leaving Heidenau. In the main square.

Mas' Blog: February 2008
http://mshimizu.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 26, 2008. A Warm Winter Day, Then Hockey. This past Sunday, it was a really warm day. It hit 18C, which is very unusual for February. Not surprisingly, the beer garden was open, even though it's normally closed for the winter. There were a ton of people enjoying the weather along the Elbe river. Also, the Germans figured out an efficient way of distributing beer. Why not have a guy carry a keg and refill the cups? Dresden ended up winning 3-0. At 2/26/2008 01:07:00 PM. Unfortunately, th...

Mas' Blog: Bratislava and Budapest.
http://mshimizu.blogspot.com/2008/05/bratislava-and-budapest.html
Monday, May 19, 2008. I haven't had time to post for a while, so I'll just post some pics with some comments. On the long weekend between May 1st to May 4th, I went to Bratislava, Slovakia, and Budapest, Hungary. Since the train would have taken 10 hours from Dresden to Budapest, we decided to drive. Here are pictures from Bratislava. A panorama from the top of the castle. Apparently, Bratislava has the largest number of communist apartment buildings in Europe. It's quite an eye-sore.

Monday, April 30, 2007. Other Parts of Dresden. Volkswagen's "Transparent Factory". I'm guessing that they don't actually make the cars here. It looks like a hell of a lot of money to spend just for a showroom though. The Großer Garten. Where Dresdeners go to relax and enjoy the greenery. Surprisingly, I found a group of people playing roller hockey. At 4/30/2007 03:00:00 PM. I decided to get some night shots of this beautiful city as well. Not sure what this building is. The Procession of Princes. I wen...

Mas' Blog: November 2007
http://mshimizu.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 08, 2007. After Berlin, we went to Dresden for 2 nights (Sept 25-26), where we met up with my friends for a few drinks. The next day we did a bike tour around Dresden. Unfortunately, the weather didn't co-operate, but we did discover this awesome wine called Federweisser. We arrived sometime in the afternoon, and the weather was quite miserable. After we checked into our hotel, we started our walking tour. Inside the city center within the wall. An old guard tower. The entrance to the ...
