If you're reading this blog you probably know the PAX East HCS Season 1 championship is this weekend, starting tomorrow. I've posted my predictions on forums, but I wanted to give an in-depth preview of the bracket and my predictions throughout the bracket with explanations on a gametype-by-gametype basis. The event starts off with a play-in match between European Wildcard qualifier Vibe and 8. Evil Geniuses vs Noble Black.

Monday, March 31, 2014. The Kitchen Sync - For the Team with Everything but Teamwork. Teamwork wins team-based competitive games. Individual skill and mechanical strength is all well and good, but if you're not on the same page, you might as well be playing Battleship against one another. Robert Baratheon said it quite astutely when talking to his wife in Game of Thrones (skip to 2 minutes if the video doesn't do it for you.) -. Now, I've briefly brushed over what (I perceive) a kitchen's ideal communica...

Thursday, May 15, 2014. Taking Charge: Don't be Shocked, Shot-Calling is Hard. In a recent episode of their show Summoning Insight, MonteCristo and Thooorin postulated on shotcalling and posed the question, "Why is it so hard to find a good shotcaller? I mention David Sirlin often in my writing, and I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this particular article several times before, but.Sirlin wrote a blog about Intuition, the Mental Iceberg, and Narrow bandwidth of players when it comes to balancing multipl...

Monday, August 10, 2015. Competitively, Halo and League of Legends are basically the same game. Competitively, Halo and League of Legends are basically the same game. Okay Audley, you've gone off the fucking deep end. How can a first person shooter with equal starts and a top-down MOBA with 100 champions be the same game? I'm going to start off with extremely generic descriptions, but transition into more complex facets of play that exist in both titles that players may be completely unaware are parallel.

Audley Enough: November 2013
http://mtaudleyenough.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Re: "Do Video Games Need to be Competitive? This Audley Enough is a response post, to a video from Scott "Gandhi" Lussier where he pondered the question, "Do Video Games need to be competitive? Go watch that before reading this. Now, understand that most of this post is responding to that video, and that I'm also equally prone to rambling. I don't have any cohesive message to tell with this Audley Enough, it's just responding to a handful of points. Nowthat long rant aside....

Audley Enough: Zoning: Victory through Eminent Domain
http://mtaudleyenough.blogspot.com/2015/02/zoning-victory-through-eminent-domain.html
Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Zoning: Victory through Eminent Domain. One mistake novice players will often make in competitive games is assuming combat needs to be constant, that only through killing or attempting to kill someone can you accumulate advantages. More experienced players know this not to be true, but most aren't able to verbalize what it is they're doing that separates them from the lesser skilled kill chasers. But zoning through grenades is elementary. Anyone can pick up the concept of ...

Sunday, September 7, 2014. Sticking To Your Guns: Appealing to Various Playstyles with Competitively Viable Weapons. If you haven't read the Wizards of the Coast article about the archetypes, and don't have time to, let me summarize:.
