Linear Diophantine Equations – Maths Talk

https://mathtalk.wordpress.com/2016/05/27/linear-diophantine-equations

May 27, 2016. Posted in Diophantine Equations. Diophantus, often called the the father of Algebra lived in Alexandria in the 3. Century. There is practically nothing known about him except the above facts, whether he was Greek or Egyptian, or when he died, yet we do know his age! Solving which tells us that Diophantus died aged 84! Diophantus introduced the idea of algebraic notations, and gave special symbols for equality, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and integer exponents upto 6.

Algebraic or Transcendent? – Maths Talk

https://mathtalk.wordpress.com/2016/05/20/algebraic-or-transcendent

May 20, 2016. May 22, 2016. This post is a continuation of Number Construction. Where we talked about constructible numbers, in particular how to construct them geometrically using compass and a straight edge. We will now look at them from an algebraic perspective. Instead of working geometrically, we can do this algebraically as well. Some examples are:. 2 = 1 1. Since we can get 2 using only addition, it is constructible. In above, if we perform another elementary operation – subtracting 1, inste...

Pascal’s Triangle – Maths Talk

May 22, 2016. December 29, 2016. There are many interesting number patterns, one of the most useful and fascinating of which is Pascal’s Triangle. It hides within itself many other number sequences which are useful in diverse areas of maths. This number pattern is named after French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal. Although other mathematicians in India,. Persia, China, Germany, and Italy had studied it centuries before him. The ‘k’th entry in the ‘n’th row =. In this notation, if n k then.

E-learning just one click away. Numeracy is every bit as important as literacy … innumerate students will be at a severe disadvantage in a future dominated by technology". MATHTALK emphasizes skills with rational numbers, integers, and exponents to lay a firm foundation for algebra. Classroom learning is often static, inflexible, and suited for mass delivery only. MATHTALK instruction leads to student directed learning that is non-linear and addresses individual needs. The Globe and Mail, Aug 11, 2011.

Math Talks - NT 1-4

NT = Number Talks PT = Pattern Talks (hover over NT to see). 1 Are there more inches in a mile or seconds in a day? I thought there were 2000 feet in a mile, but I realized I was wrong when I talked with my neighbor. 60 x 60 = 3600. I changed 5280 to 5000 and 12 to 10. Multiply 5000 with 10 to get 50000. Then I multiplied 280 times 2 to get about 500, add a 0 to this to make 5000. So there are about 55,000 feet in a mile. To figure out the time, I changed 24 hours to 20; and 20 times 3600 is 72,000.
