That means, they do the opposite operation of the other. In multiplication, you are adding up equal groups of objects to make one large group. Musings from Mathtropolis: October 2009

http://mathtropolis.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 30, 2009. Oh boy, oh boy! Multimart is having a Halloween Blow-Out this weekend and I am so excited! Queen One has agreed to let me decorate the castle for Halloween - a decision I'm sure she'll regret later! Some things I plan on getting at multimart:. What you have to remember at Multimart is nothing comes in single servings! You have to buy in bulk. Can you come up with a multiplication problem to help me buy my Halloween supplies? Friday, October 30, 2009. Run Before You Jump. Ruler o...

Musings from Mathtropolis: December 2010

http://mathtropolis.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 9, 2010. He is The Divisor! He will chop your dividend into EQUAL GROUPS! By now, friends, you have met the divisor. He is not someone I would want to cross! In division, The Divisor splits whatever is being divided into equal groups with a few quick slices of his sword. For example, if you have 18 cookies and you want to divide those cookies equally between 6 friends, The Divisor splits those cookies into 6 equal groups. Do you know how many cookies each friend should get? A great way...

Musings from Mathtropolis: November 2010

http://mathtropolis.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. It's that time of year again! My absolute favorite time of year! It's the time of year when students flip feverishly through flashcards, figuring out factors and pondering products! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE multiplication! Do you know why? It's so efficient. Why bother counting each can on the shelves of Multi-Mart when I can just put those cans in equal groups and then MULTIPLY? Why should I add 4 4 4 4 4 to get 20, when I can just say 4 x 5 = 20? That' s so much easier!

Musings from Mathtropolis: In a Flash!

http://mathtropolis.blogspot.com/2010/12/in-flash.html

Sunday, December 5, 2010. Now that you guys have learned. Multiplication works, it's time to learn all of those facts! A great way to do this is to get a set of flashcards from Multi-Mart. Although, at Multi-Mart, they only sell flashcards in packs of 3, so if you buy one pack, you'll get three sets of flashcards. You can always share with a friend! What are some ways you guys are learning your multiplication facts? Share with me what's working for you! Sunday, December 05, 2010. I learn multiplcation at...

Musings from Mathtropolis: November 2009

http://mathtropolis.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 20, 2009. As many of you know, I have a son named Prime Prince Two. He's a rambunctious little tyke! He loves division - and is constantly wanting to divide larger numbers. Good thing he's Two because every even number in the universe is divisible by him. Unlike his old man. Do you guys know what happens when you divide by Zero? Nothing - because it's impossible! If you have four apples, you can give two people two apples each.but you can't give ZERO people an equal number of apples!
