http://mathwithouttears.blogspot.com/2008/07/purpose-is-not-to-get-right-answer.html
Monday, July 28, 2008. The Purpose is NOT to Get the Right Answer . . . The teacher opened her book and read to me that the purpose of the exercise was not to get the right answer.". I hope that got everyone's attention. Read on to get more information about this quote from a parent. I was only slightly familiar with the American Policy Center. I had heard the name but that was about all. However, I had never heard of "The DeWeese Reports", nor had I heard of Tom DeWeese, the author. Wow! It's a fact....

http://mathwithouttears.blogspot.com/2008/07/new-battles-every-year.html
Thursday, July 17, 2008. New Battles Every Year. Grade curriculum and she was initially looking for something to help her daughter. I saw what I thought was the beginning of some ...

You people in Virginia may have already read Ian Shapira's writings. Some of his observations about Everyday Mathematics. The most surprising thing is that the total number of pages in the book devoted to teaching algorithms using whole numbers is 11 pages! The preferred Everyday Math.

Math Without Rigor | Intuition and Geometric Insight Unobscured
June 14, 2007. Filed under: The Complex Plane. 8212; Justin @ 5:52 pm. It should not be a surprise that the first hints of the meaning of imaginary numbers came from the ancient Greeks. Diophantus discovered the following equation:. Ac – bd). Just to foreshadow a little bit, this is like the formula for multiplying complex numbers:. A bi)(c di) = (ac – bd) (ad bc)i. 4225 = (3·5 – 4·12). 3·12 4·5). Using the Pythagorean theorem we get:. 5·13 = 65. If you add up the angles of the original triangles, you ge...
