Natural Planted Aquariums

What is a NPT? Thursday, December 15, 2011. This plant is a pest I try to avoid at all costs from enentering my tanks. Well it has recently infested my pond, I've been trying to remove it but I'm afraid to say it has one, I will never be able to remove it now. Since I don't really see the unatractive bladders and only the flowers I guess I can live with it. I took this photo of it yesterday. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Update on my CRS tank. Species profile- Betta sp. Mahachai. The tank should have plen...

Natural Planted Aquariums: Tip-terrestrial plants

http://matt-naturalplantedaquariums.blogspot.com/2011/08/tip-terrestrial-plants.html

What is a NPT? Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Terrestrial plants such as pothos. Can be used to take up excess nutrients in an aquarium much more effectively. Than plants that are submersed in your aquarium. This is because they have the aerial. Detailed in the book. Ecology of the Planted Aquarium. This book, I have learnt a great deal from it. I also recommend. You read the articles she wrote that can be downloaded free from the website linked. To get started all you need to do is take a cutting of a pothos.

Natural Planted Aquariums: Set-up

http://matt-naturalplantedaquariums.blogspot.com/p/set-up.html

What is a NPT? Crushed oyster shells or marble chips. Layer of gravel, 1-3mm is a good size. A number of fast growing stem plants and deep rooted plants. Step 1. Locate yourself some soil, a cheap bag from the nursery is good provided it has no water saving crystals, wetting agents or added fertilisers in it. If it has bark it is wise to sift that out. Step 2. Mix in your crushed shells or marble chips, 1 cup per 30 square centimeters is how much I use, doesn't need to be precise. I live in Brisbane, I a...

Natural Planted Aquariums: New shrimp CRS

http://matt-naturalplantedaquariums.blogspot.com/2011/10/new-shrimp-crs.html

What is a NPT? Tuesday, October 4, 2011. I just got these new shrimp this Sunday, I've been admiring them for months and finally decided to get my self some, they are all A grades, some V bands and Tiger tooth as well, they are patterns the shrimp have. I need to save up for a chiller before the temperature rises to much, they don't like to go above 14 degrees so that will be hard in my Brisbane Summer! I'll have to try find some willow branches. Natural Planted Aquariums: Tip-potasium sulphate

http://matt-naturalplantedaquariums.blogspot.com/2011/10/tip-potasium-sulphate.html

What is a NPT? Tuesday, October 4, 2011. I thought I should mention now that I haven't had a K defiancy in any if my tanks yet (nearly a year) and I hope I don't develop one. I might add some sea weed to the filter to decompose, it is supposed to be high in K. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. View my complete profile. Bubbles & Bettas: All About The Betta Fish

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/2010/07/all-about-betta-fish.html

Tail Types and Patterns. Sunday, July 4, 2010. All About The Betta Fish. Betta Splendens - otherwise known as Betta Fish or Siamese Fighting Fish - originated from parts of Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and other parts of Asia. They lived in rice paddies just like these:. Picture thanks to The Betta Lady. Picture thanks to The Betta Lady. Map of where Betta's originated:. Betta's waste builds up ammonia which will kill. Bettas can survive in small spaces, but they are unhappy, prone to...

Bubbles & Bettas: Male or Female?

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/boy-or-girl.html

Tail Types and Patterns. Differentiating the sex of your Betta can sometimes be difficult. Many assume that males are colourful and have long fins, and females are drab, with short fins. This is not strictly true at all, now that bettas are domesticated. Forget about it. A few different ways to sex your Bettas:. Notice how she is blue? Males generally have longer ventral fins (the two long 'dangly' fins in front of the Bettas vent). So if you have a short finned Betta (such as a Plakat), and notice i...

Bubbles & Bettas: Diseases

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/betta-diseases.html

Tail Types and Patterns. The majority of diseases are caused by bad water conditions. If you take care of your water quality by doing frequent waterchanges, and house and care for your betta sufficiently, disease will be scarcely a problem. However, disease does happen, and it is good to be prepared incase it does. Having a few medications on hand is a good idea. Fin rot is probably be the most common disease for Bettas. It is contagious, so keep any Betta's water away from healthy Bettas. Pinhole finrot...

Bubbles & Bettas: Care

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/betta-care.html

Tail Types and Patterns. This article covers how to set up your Betta tank, how to. Maintain it, all about cycling, feeding, tank mates and what to do when you go on holidays. To care for your Betta properly, you will need these following basic items:. 1 A good size tank. The bigger the better, I find a 20L tank is perfect for a single Betta. 3 Medications in case your Betta falls ill. 4 Plants (live is best - but if you want fake, silk is the way to go, plastic plants can tear your Bettas finnage).

Bubbles & Bettas: Anatomy

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/anatomy.html

Tail Types and Patterns. The fin at the back of the Betta, usually called the tail. Is where the Caudal Fin and the body meets. The top fin, on the Bettas back. The bottom fin, which begins from the anal opening and ends at the caudal peduncle. The two fins on the side of the Bettas body. They are just behind the gills. The Two long fins that hang down in front of the anal. Is often called the "Betta Beard". Properly named the branchiostegal membrane. The gill covers. :). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Bubbles & Bettas: Breeding

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/breeding.html

Tail Types and Patterns. The Breeding and Raising of Betta Fry. For this article, I will be reporting how I breed and raise my Betta fry. I'll be using one of my current spawns as an example, and all photos are from the same spawn. I called this spawn the "Red Spawn". Father is an extended red over cambodian base HM male. Mother is a red/orange BF cT. An intense version of red, that covers the betta from head to tail, included pectoral fins (fins on the side of their body). In this courtship, both male a...

Bubbles & Bettas: Tail Types and Patterns

http://bubblesandbettas.blogspot.com/p/betta-breeds-tail-types.html

Tail Types and Patterns. Tail Types and Patterns. There are many different breeds, tail types and patterns of Bettas. I don't think you can actually list them all, but I'm going to try to do as many as I can. THE VEIL TAIL (VT). The Veil tail is the most common breed of Bettas. Their tails arch up, then float down, appearing to look a a veil; this is how they received the name 'Veil Tail'. Veil Tails are easily found in pretty much any fish shop. Thank you to Matt Thomas for this picture. While flaring, ...
