Although he disagrees with the title! In spring 2015 Matt became a part owner and pilot of the UK's only airworthy Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina flying boat, based in Duxford UK. Warbird flying has always appealed to him and this was too good an opportunity to pass by. It has allowed him to expand his flying repertoire to include one of the world's most iconic warbirds and the ability to get his commercial seaplane rating too.

It’s also vaguely known as Shangri-La which is what the press dubbed the area after a crash at the end of WWII involving a US C-47 and the ensuing rescue mission for the survivors. Arriving into Biak from Jakarta at the beginning of the month, I was tasked with flying one of our Porters from there to Sentani.
