Our First Anniversary – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2016/09/25/our-first-anniversary
September 25, 2016. September 25, 2016. One year and counting! To celebrate, we went to Blue Mustard, a trendy restaurant in Vienna’s first district. The decor is inspired by St. Stephan’s Cathedral. And the fare is “international fusion,” with three hybrid menus (Vienna/Naples, Paris/Bangkok, Bizkaia/Damascus). Top left photo is from here. Because I just couldn’t get a good shot of the bar area. We finished off the night with a nightcap at Ella’s Ouzaria, in honor of our honeymoon to Skiathos.

Bavaria – Knisely & Barnidge

September 20, 2016. September 20, 2016. This weekend we attempted a fairytale quest through southern Germany. Instead, we learned some lessons about hotel thieves. But hey, at least there was plenty of beer to drink away the pain of dealing with Bavarians. Anyway. We wanted to give Munich another shot, and this time we made a hotel reservation. Above: Our lodging on our first visit to Munich. Sorry, Moms. Below: Second time digs. Top right: Hofbrauhaus, littered with 1-liters. Neuschwanstein is the castl...

Paris Layover – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2017/01/09/paris-layover
January 9, 2017. February 28, 2017. Our Christmas trip to Texas was plagued by weather delays, “technical difficulties,” and inexplicable reroutes by Delta Airlines. A 15-hour travel itinerary ultimately turned into a grueling three-day mess, complete with a lost bag. But there was one highlight along the way: an unexpected night in Paris. We didn’t have much time, so we made a mad dash for the Eiffel Tower. We came up from the subway stop just in time to see it sparkle. Ooh lala …. The view from the top.

Frohe Weihnachten! – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2016/12/19/frohe-weihnachten
December 19, 2016. February 28, 2017. I know I’ve said this many times, but nobody does Christmas like the Austrians. Nobody. Almost every European city has a Christmas market of some sort, but Vienna (of course) claims to have started it all with a massive December market in 1294. I decided to walk my way through Advent season by visiting 25 of Vienna’s more than 40 annual Christmas markets, pop-ups, and bazaars. (Matt was a good sport for about a half dozen! 2 thoughts on “ Frohe Weihnachten!

Bratislava – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2016/12/12/bratislava
December 12, 2016. February 28, 2017. We made a quick run over to Bratislava this weekend. The capital of Slovakia is only an hour by train from Vienna, and though I wouldn’t call it a major European highlight, it was a surprisingly charming stop. Our AirBnB was located right next next to the American embassy, and we touched “American soil” for the first time in five months. We poked a finger through the fence when the guard wasn’t looking. Michael’s Gate, Bratislava’s original medieval wall. Blue Star)&...

Autumn in Austria – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2016/10/24/autumn-in-austria
October 24, 2016. February 28, 2017. The semester started at the Universität this month, and we took a month off from traveling as Matt re-adjusts to teaching. We decided to play tourist in Vienna again, since fall is kind of a special thing around here. Heurigers are the Viennese wine taverns located along the edges of the city, and they’re often adjacent to small, family-run vineyars. Mayer am Pfarrplatz. Really, you’re doing the vintners a favor. Leafing in Vienna’s “Backyards”. The fall colors were m...

Krampuslauf – Knisely & Barnidge
https://kniselybarnidge.com/2016/11/28/krampuslauf
November 28, 2016. February 28, 2017. Nothing rings in the holiday season quite like a parade of demented goat-yaks wielding whips, chains, and a chainsaw or two. Welcome to Austria. Meet Krampus. This post (about watching a Krampus parade in Klagenfurt) got so much love from family and friends that I decided to pitch it. And Atlas Obscura bought it. So for now, I’ve taken down the photos since they officially belong to someone else. Still sad the post is gone? 7 thoughts on “ Krampuslauf. Address never ...
