Stewing and Brewing

Monday, March 12, 2012. Beer #37 to 49. I am a little behind in the blogging part but I am ahead of the game on keeping up with the calendar. Today is March 12, 2012 and and by now 72 new beers should have been consumed, well I have had 85! So lots of blogging to do, but that's OK, as long as the info is there and the list goal continues. This group was tasted a while back, but lots of fun things in here. I'll keep most of it brief, with larger descriptions for the things that really stood out. Really, t...

Stewing and Brewing: July 2010

http://www.matthewedekorte.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 31, 2010. So batch 6 of homebrew has been fermenting for exactly one week. Last Saturday I spent 4 hours in preparation for this day. This is the first batch that I have created from my own recipe, my own idea and in an entirely different brewing process. It took a lot more time than I was expecting but ultimately I think it is going to be a success. Stay tuned, It should be drinkable in another two to three weeks. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monday, February 13, 2012. Beer #27 to #36. Well I am making progress, but still 5 beers behind. need a brewery tour or something to sort that out. Beer #27 - New Belgium Cocoa Mole. Beer #28 - New Belgium Biere De Mars. Beer #29 - Firestone §acuba (beer formerly known as Abacus). Beer #30 - Green Flash Le Freak. The Label states this is a convergence of styles, Belgian Trippel and American IPA. Yes exactly. Light in color like a trippel, zesty yeast flavors; clove comes through strongly, cardamo...I hav...

Stewing and Brewing: September 2011

http://www.matthewedekorte.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 12, 2011. What a fantastic night. I had a really nice dinner with my parents and my dad and I evaluated a new Foxen wine. Following that I got to hang out with three very close friends. We studied the word, smoked cigars, had a few pints and enjoyed the company of fellow believers. Not much better than that. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Here's the new wine storage! So a couple nights ago, I hadn't had dinner, it was pretty late and I felt the need to try and idea. Blogs from friends and ...

Something Worth Knowing: August 2010

http://hollydekorte.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 22, 2010. Ten Days in Kyiv. Who knew there would be such a selection? From the left to right: Brenda, Carolyn, Val, me, Jon, Alyssa and Rachel in front of the WWII and Forced Famine Memorial. This past Saturday, a group of us set off to redeem last Saturday's extremely uncomfortable sight seeing day. We had a gorgeous day indeed. This is a group of us from school (minus Brenda's friend from the states and his interpreter). These are new faces that you'll probably see often! Ten Days in Kyiv.

Thoughts from the Ridge: Making Cheese

http://thoughtsfromtheridge.blogspot.com/2014/11/making-cheese.html

Thoughts from the Ridge. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Jody and I were at the Cheese Importers. In Longmont and ran across a kit to make your own mozzarella. So we said to ourselves, "We've seen them make it on TV, how hard can it be". So we decided to get the kit and then off to the store to get the ingredients. Luckily it really doesn't take much: a gallon of whole milk, some rennet, salt, and citric acid. Gather all the ingredients and instructions. Start heating the whole milk. G's All Around Me.

Something Worth Knowing: July 2011

http://hollydekorte.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 6, 2011. The First Half of 2011. I was reflecting on the first six months of 2011 and realized that I must have slept through January and February. Seriously, I have a faint memory of celebrating my birthday in January and venturing to Cyprus in February. Those first two months were spent inside at the pool, inside visiting with people and inside curled up with a book. But then, March hit. Kyiv. Came alive and so did I. Team so our five Kyiv. My co-coach, Morgan, my friends from Tirana.

Something Worth Knowing: November 2010

http://hollydekorte.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. This is what I woke up to on Sunday morning. This beautiful dusting of snow didn't stay around too long. By Sunday afternoon, most of it had melted away. The weather had called for 40 degrees F for Monday. So, I wore a dress with leggings. It might be the LAST time I wear a dress with leggings! Here are some observations I've made after two school days of snow:. 1 Begin getting ready for recess at least five extra minutes early. 2 Tell the students to put their gloves on LAST.

Something Worth Knowing: February 2011

http://hollydekorte.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 27, 2011. A Week in the Sun. Spring is slowly creeping toward Kyiv. Winter was not as brutal as I had anticipated. The weather was manageable, but the darkness and gray days were sobering. Luckily, our school had a week long February break. Seven of us fled the dark winter days and headed south to the island nation, Cyprus. We took our time waking up on Sunday and spent the morning swimming in our heated pool. The air felt light and quite refreshing. Rachel and I loaded ourselves...The o...

Saturday, March 17, 2012. I did not correct him and say, "But I'm not a missionary teacher! I teach privileged children, children of diplomats, business men, aide workers. I teach children whose concept of family is a driver and a nanny who wait on their every whim. These are not the children of missionaries." No, I did not say that. I said, "I will." and walked away. My mother turned to me and said, "Are you a missionary? Do I raise funds? No Do I travel for enjoyment? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Thoughts from the Ridge: September 2013

http://thoughtsfromtheridge.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Thoughts from the Ridge. Tuesday, September 17, 2013. In this dry community here, we would not expect there to be a title of a post like that. Many folks have asked us how we are and what it is like here. Well first, we are not anywhere near to the same situation as those in the higher country, Boulder, Longmont, Lyons, Jamestown, etc. We are very fortunate. As you now know Colorado starting having heaving rains early last week. Over all in Boulder, they had 19 inches of rain in just a few days. For our ...
