Feliz Navidad | Matt's Micronesian Journal
https://matthewjbritten.wordpress.com/2008/12/29/feliz-navidad
Matt’s Micronesian Journal. Documenting my time in the Pacific. Sometimes I Even Work →. December 29, 2008. Now I know what you’re all thinking: Two posts in one month Matt? You are on a rampage my friend, but shouldn’t you be climbing coconuts trees and mingling with the local serepein? The pictures will be crystal clear. It also takes pictures underwater, so look out for those when the time comes. Outside the nahs, with those monster yams on the right. Inside the nahs, lots of activity here. Middle bro...

Matt’s Micronesian Journal. Documenting my time in the Pacific. Eat Your Heart Out, Zack Morris. Summer Recap →. May 24, 2009. Overall it was a great time and a very good way to end the year. School is out, so what does a PCV do during these down times? All the cool girls. Nelsin and Steward, thrown in jail. They are probably the two students least likely to end up there. All the cool boys. Bercy enjoying the waves. Joseph, holding a bird that he caught a few minutes prior. A great end to a great day.
California Burrito Dreamin’ | Matt's Micronesian Journal

Matt’s Micronesian Journal. Documenting my time in the Pacific. I Wish It Could Be True →. California Burrito Dreamin’. September 29, 2009. School has started, and with it time has suddenly shifted into overdrive. One minute I’m sailing peacefully across the ocean to a distant sun-dappled island, and the next I’m lecturing a group of bored fourteen year olds about the importance of plural possessive nouns. Americans may be obsessed with time, but I sure as hell don’t know where it goes. Island Research a...

Matt’s Micronesian Journal. Documenting my time in the Pacific. California Burrito Dreamin’ →. August 14, 2009. Hello all, long time no talk. When I last left you, school was finished and I was gearing up for a fun, productive summer. That fun, productive summer is nearly over with now, as I’m currently gearing up for the new school year. Part 1 Voyage to Kapingamarangi. Nikkis house on Sapwuahfik. Main street, Nukuoro. Pearl farming, Nukuoro. The dock at Kapingamarangi. Part 2: Summer Recap. 8211; Stayi...

And then began asking other teachers at her school if they also had other supplies. Soon the word spread to the other schools in town, and more and more supplies were collected. Finally they arrived in my locker at the Peace Corps office in Kolonia town, and eventually into the hands of my students a few days later. Stan Dillon of R...

Emily's Peace Corps Adventure in the Pacific: August 2011
http://emilyspacificadventure.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
How I think Peace Corps Service will influence my personal and professional aspirations after my service ends. Wow I wrote this in May 2009 - over two years ago - and in 2 months my Peace Corps service is ending. The future is upon me =). My good friend Kanani came out to Ulithi for a visit at the end of July. Her visit happened to coincide with a tropical storm, so we nestled in, watched movies and did puzzles galore! We arrived in Pohnpei in the middle of the night and were whisked away in a van to our...

Emily's Peace Corps Adventure in the Pacific
http://emilyspacificadventure.blogspot.com/2011/04/at-beginning-of-april-i-caught-ship-in.html
At the beginning of April I caught the ship in for a resource trip. The time has been wonderful and refreshing and full of an unexpected adventure to Manila. I made friends, both on Yap and in the PI, and it's been wonderful to reconnect with people. See my new Facebook profile picture for further proof. So, as you may or may not know, this was on my way back from Manila for a "Dental MedEvac" with a broken (well, dislocated and fractured) toe to boot (ha! I know there are many challenges involved in the...

Emily's Peace Corps Adventure in the Pacific: October 2010
http://emilyspacificadventure.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Half Way Through and A New Beginning. One year down in my Peace Corps experience and somehow I'm back at the beginning again. Since I left in July, I've said hello to my new community in Ulithi and goodbye to my old home in Woleai. Both experiences were positive yet challenging in their own ways, and it's been interesting to transition from one island home to another. My local hut on Federai - home sweet home! Inside my hut at night :-). The apple tree we sit under at night to talk story. There were many...

If you wait till the last minute. A fellow traveler and friend once told me, "If you wait till the last minute, it'll only take a minute! I'm keeping this in mind as I write this update. As it stands, I've been back on Yap Proper since the last weeks of May - almost two months. And in those two months, I've had three days of training. And so here I am, in the last several minutes (read: days) before I leave on Friday for my new site - Federai, Ulithi. (Said: Fed-er-eye, You-lith-ee). Yap, FM 96943. P)I w...

Emily's Peace Corps Adventure in the Pacific: Along the Path, A Library
http://emilyspacificadventure.blogspot.com/2011/01/along-path-library.html
Along the Path, A Library. Talking to the principle, I decided to close the library for the next week, both as punishment and preparation. What I really needed to do was make sure that the students and I were on the same page - that the school's expecations for the library and appropriate behavior were well-known and aligned with the expecations of the students. The most wonderful feeling of pride and success came one day when I had a staff meeting and had to leave the Library Monitors in charge. Not...

Allow me to catch you up. Oh, how little did I (do I ever? Not only was I blindsided with the news that I'd be leaving in less than a day on a patrol boat with none other than the President of the FSM, but this news was fantastically preceded by an honest-to-goodness boat-load of Cheeze-Its arriving on my island! 8220;Don’t get married and be humble. Oh, and your island may be 60 ft. under water soon. Congratulations! I now have one of the worst track records with the Peace Corps. Twice the Peace Cor...

Matt's Micronesian Journal | Documenting my time in the Pacific
Matt’s Micronesian Journal. Documenting my time in the Pacific. January 14, 2010. Stepping off the plane to a beautiful and breezy Pohnpeian afternoon, I take a deep breath and plunge into the home stretch of my Peace Corps service. Crazy as it may seem, I’m a mere nine months from completing my tour here in Micronesia. In many respects it’s gone by quickly. You may be wondering, from whence did your plane come? I Wish It Could Be True. December 14, 2009. Hello all. My camera is broken, so once again...
