Since 2010, I’ve been working with ABB on the next generation of the process automation system 800xA. The new design is not yet ready so the images below is not my design. The system is used to control all kinds of industries, such as chemical, hydro power plant, nuclear power etc. At the heart of a plant is the operator workplace where the whole process can be monitored and controlled. Volvo Drive-By-Wire - MATTIAS ANDERSSON DESIGN

This is my Master Thesis at the Umeå Institute of Design. With drive-by-wire the connection to the steering wheel is electronic. In this concept the instruments are placed above the wheel and the airbag is moved to the ceiling. The wheel has a fixed centre and no spokes. Gear changes are made with a ring inside the wheel. To get out of the car easier, the wheel folds into the dashboard. To improve visual ergonomics, the instruments are placed on a digital display above the steering wheel.

Today you can almost buy an entire home at IKEA. The only missing part is the media and entertainment products. If IKEA would start selling media products. What would they look like? The technology inside the cube is fairly simple. A gyroscopic sensor detects any movement with good accuracy. A speaker is also giving a clicking sound when the cube is turned. Telia Play mobile TV. The swedish operator Telia is about to release its own streaming service. At Ocean Observations. I have worked with designing applications for phones and tablets on both iOS and Android. A new challenge was to focus the service around Live TV. How can we bring the TV experience to mobile devices? The complexity of the service is also high since it combines Live TV, On demand TV and movie rentals into one unified experience. Nokia N97 - MATTIAS ANDERSSON DESIGN

The N97 is Nokia’s next flagship product and the one that I’ve done most work on. I’ve been lead user experience designer responsible for hardware interaction such as touch technologies, button placement, illumination etc. On the software side I have, among other things, designed the master layout, the widget based home screen and the menu system. The N97 was the first device with the Symbian 5.0 OS. It is now running on several Nokia devices and has been sold in tens of millions of devices.
