My reflections on my journey through Fuller Theological Seminary. That Shrinking Feeling… →. God of the Turnaround. May 12, 2011. But what I loved about studying this passage is the way that God acts to turn around Zion’s fortunes. He tells the “Barren one” to burst into song and shout! Because “the children of the desolate woman will. So what is it that God has turned around in your life? Is it the broken-ness of barrenness? Is it the shame of being rejected [Is 54.6]? The church has sometimes given the...

My reflections on my journey through Fuller Theological Seminary. Been a while…. December 31, 2011. I couldn’t let the Year finish without one more brief blog. It’s been a bit quiet on the blogging front because so much has been going on, and in the midst of all the busyness, God’s goodness has been front and centre. View all posts by mattjamd →. My reflections on my journey through Fuller Theological Seminary. God of the Turnaround. On Dad Dancing →. That Shrinking Feeling…. June 28, 2011. Sometimes in life, events seem to overtake us and leave us feeling overwhelmed. How will we cope, how can we possibly meet that deadline, how will things work out? It can leave us feeling like we are shrinking in a bad way. (Probably because we have put ourselves at the centre of everything, or else made ourselves to be more important than we really are).

My reflections on my journey through Fuller Theological Seminary. Newer posts →. Bonhoeffer and the Serpent’s Question. March 3, 2011. This quarter, I confess that Jesus has made me uncomfortable for the first time in a long time. And rightly so. I realise that I have to wrestle with passages that confuse me and confront me. Now, I haven’t read what else Bonhoeffer said (my disclaimer for what follows) but in class we considered his response. That is, not to answer the question “How can o...The first que...

In my previous post I implied that they were less than helpful. I retract that accusation and apologise unreservedly. Another solution was to make permanent a temporary measure I had adopted last winter (and which seemed to work) in a desperate attempt to avoid boiler shut-down: lagging the pipe. Hence my visit to B&Q. This is not...

Blogs should be about something. All about something. This one is about all kinds of things. I'm not entirely sure what. Seeing the boys' and girls' uniformed groups reminded me of Church Parades I attended when I was a Cub. I was surprised to realise that I had no clue at that time what Church Parade was about, and amused to note that modern day members do not seem to be taught how to march. The War Memorial bears the names of those from our village who gave their lives. The realisation of that grou...

My Dad told me the other day about his window cleaner's use of deionised water, and how clear the windows were after washing. He thought I might be impressed but all I could do was point out the folly of it: while thousands die every day for want of uncontaminated water, we use the purest for cleaning our windows. What a sick world we live in. Links to this post.
