An American Abroad in Austria

An American Abroad in Austria. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Home in the USA. My summer will most likely be jammed-packed with reunions and short trips, that's just the overly organized planner in me. But typical me, I'm already in Vermont working at Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy for another summer. That means I have to switch my brain back into German mode. Believe me, it doesn't happen as quickly as a light switch. I hope to invite some spontaneity in Vienna, but I may fall back into old habits. My las...

An American Abroad in Austria: March: Working towards Spain

http://mattknoth.blogspot.com/2015/06/march-working-towards-spain.html

An American Abroad in Austria. Wednesday, June 3, 2015. March: Working towards Spain. January was slow; February was quick; but March was the blink of an eye. With flights and hostels in Spain booked for Easter break, I was already planning ahead to the other upcoming breaks in May. My weekends were more local in Linz with hikes and I continued with the usual week's activities: tandem, Swedish, sleep, Facebook, work etc. Explorations around Linz and Salzburg. Spring in Spain (Easter break). I enjoyed to ...

An American Abroad in Austria: March 2015

http://mattknoth.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

An American Abroad in Austria. Sunday, March 8, 2015. March has already been a busy month here in Linz. February concluded with a day at a thermal bath (Austrian spa) in Bad Hall. From indoor and outdoor pools to saunas and steam-rooms, it was a rejuvenating day. I know, life seems unbearably tough in Austria. Outdoor pools in Bad Hall. Linz Center - it's starting to feel like spring! Off to the Concert! Stroll in a Linz suburb. The life story of Stephen Hawking. It was a fascinating film, and I, alo...

An American Abroad in Austria: April: Amazing Travels

http://mattknoth.blogspot.com/2015/07/april-amazing-travels.html

An American Abroad in Austria. Wednesday, July 1, 2015. With my Interrail pass, I also organized two day trips from Madrid. Toledo was a walk back in time. Segovia was like a fairy tale. My pass also brought me Valencia - my final stop. This was the "underdog" city in my itinerary, as in, I wasn't sure what to expect. Everything was perfect! Hiking through Ebensee and Traunkirchen. Italy and Vatican City. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Where does life take you? View my complete profile.

An American Abroad in Austria. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Thursday, June 20, 2013. Up at 5:30am for a solid breakfast and enough time to catch the train to Dresden, it was sweltering by 8am when I arrived for the written portion of the exam (the oral proficiency assessment was the following Monday). I wore my favorite Saarlandish shirt (Ohhh hann isch die Flemm! My treat to me after the Goethe C1 exam - a strawberry milkshake. Friday, June 21, 2013. New Townhall (Neues Rathaus).

Tim's adventures in Thailand. Tuesday, February 12, 2013. First and foremost- a shoutout to Lennie Zhu, who is not only spunky and beautiful but also almost as cool as her own earrings, which is saying a lot, because I don't think I know of anything cooler than Lennie's taste in dangling pinna ornaments. This was somewhat unfortunate, because even in the few short days that we were in Luang Prabang we found a haunt we really liked: Utopia. I promise you, this place is a bar. It's pretty awesome. Tim's adventures in Thailand. Thursday, February 7, 2013. Once again, Yupin has made a wonderful, lovely, delicious meal. this one is particularly Isan. Isan is the Northeast region of Thailand where I am (did you remember that? Mackerel to the right (a rare saltwater exception) and pickeled bamboo shoots behind that. Earlier today Geoffrey and I harvested some bananas. It was *this big*. So keep that in mind over the course of the week: be careful around banana trees! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Tim's adventures in Thailand. Saturday, February 9, 2013. How it's made: Textiles. So in this corner of the world there are lots of textiles- cloths, scarves, clothes, reams of fabric- and many of them are locally or at least semi-locally made. Heck, probably many of our textiles back home are coming from this corner of the world. After the thread has been died, it is spun again from the long loops onto more manageable bobbins. This particular spinning wheel is made out of an old bicycle wheel. How its m...

Tim's adventures in Thailand. Friday, February 8, 2013. To and From Luang Prabang. So I went up to Luang Prabang in Northern Laos over the weekend. Luang Prabang is saddled between the Mekong and the Nam Kahn Rivers. The trip was a good one, and I do have a couple of stories to tell about it. Today, though, I'm just going to focus on the actual journey involved, because I think it's kind of interesting. I got in around 5:30 in the morning. welcome to Luang Prabang!
