Maven University: An Open Letter to the Oxfam International Secretariat
http://mavenuniversity.blogspot.com/2014/02/an-open-letter-to-oxfam-international.html
Sunday, February 9, 2014. An Open Letter to the Oxfam International Secretariat. I first became aware of Oxfam International while visiting England in the 1970s, and have been an occasional donor to Oxfam America ever since. However, I find your recent decision to "accept" the resignation of Scarlett Johansson because of her promotion of SodaStream to be utterly reprehensible. Maven University: Dumb Duck Droppings
http://mavenuniversity.blogspot.com/2013/12/redneck-capitalism.html
Sunday, December 22, 2013. No doubt, A&E has painted itself into a corner. Suspending Robertson is having serious repercussions, and will continue to do so whether A&E rescinds his suspension or not. And here I thought it was only the news media that have gone brain dead. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Blog while there's still time! Maven University: Coincidence or Convergence?
http://mavenuniversity.blogspot.com/2013/11/coincidence-or-convergence.html
Thursday, November 28, 2013. As the media's greeting goes today. Chanukah and Thanksgiving, holidays of two entirely different origins and time tables, are both taking place today for the first time in many years, and the last time in eons. Finally, it behooves us to guard this freedom exceedingly carefully, and to understand that free exercise of one religion stops at the line where it interferes with someone else exercising theirs. When religious groups start using persuasion and deception to conve...

Mae Hong Son: Gilroy, eat your heart out
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2012/01/gilroy-eat-your-heart-out.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Gilroy, eat your heart out. Perhaps the Thais will never turn their garlic growing into a vacation destination the way Gilroy has done with its annual Garlic Festival, but I'll bet they can't compete with Thailand for its interesting and efficient growing method. Mae Hong Son: Spiders and geckos and snakes, Oh, My!
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2012/01/spiders-and-geckos-and-snakes-oh-my.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. Spiders and geckos and snakes, Oh, My! I've been writing a lot about the dogs I've come across here in Mae Hong Son, but they're not the only creatures I've run into. There are probably more geckos than dogs here. They hang out on the walls, indoors and out. I've just come to accept them as part of the decor. I have a whole new respect for Albert Schweitzer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Mae Hong Son: October 2011
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Sunday, October 30, 2011. The value of fear. What gives value to travel is fear. It is the fact that, at a certain moment, when we are so far from our country.we are seized by a vague fear, and an instinctive desire to go back to the protection of old habits," said Albert Camus in his Notebooks. Mae Hong Son: Looking for Bodhi in all the wrong places
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2012/01/looking-for-bodhi-in-all-wrong-places.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Looking for Bodhi in all the wrong places. One of things I was hoping to gain in Thailand was a better understanding of Buddhism. My knowledge of Buddhism is quite limited, and I remembered having a very lively discussion about it with someone my last time here. I hoped to expand that understanding. The only people who don't have spirit houses on their property are Christians. Unlike Buddhism, which i...
Mae Hong Son: Culinary Attitude Adjustments
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2011/12/culinary-attitude-adjustments.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Sunday, December 4, 2011. A couple of Thai women had a good laugh yesterday at my expense. So yesterday, I brought a couple of nice sturdy bags with me to the Sunday market so I could hopefully protect my eggs. I took the little cellophane bag and put it into one of the bags I brought and, lo and behold, I picked a bag with no bottom! Friday night, after making a motzei. I ceremoniously dipped my bread into the crystalline substanc...
Mae Hong Son: To 120!
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2011/12/to-120.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Monday, December 5, 2011. Yesterday, was Thailand's king Bhumibol Adulyadej's 84th birthday, and the whole country celebrated. The king's birthday is a national holiday here; can't say I minded having the day off. Every city and town had its own parade and festival—the big one, of course, being in Bangkok. Unfortunately, I slept through the one in Mae Hong Son. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Monday, January 23, 2012. I really was going to be a good girl and not buy new clothes here. Fat chance. Have a look. If you like what you see, please let me know and I'll purchase it for you. Location: Mae Hong Son, Thailand. January 29, 2012 at 6:01 AM. Hi Linda: I like the vest in #13, my only question is they make them big/long enough for my Scottish/German frame. :-). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Mae Hong Son: November 2011
http://maehong-son.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Green hills, flowers, waterfalls- what's not to like? The Ku Somsri Shop. Monday, November 28, 2011. Farewell to Little Mr. No Name. As I write this, my friend Raquel stands over little Mr. No-Name, as I've come to call him (everyone else just calls him No Name). She's fanning the flies off him. He is pretty well unconscous at this point and will probably die before the day is over. She doesn't want me to see him. The local vet refuses to euthanize him. It's just not in the culture here, despite ther...
