Inspired by the vast, flat terrain she has experienced in regions as diverse as Australia and the Caribbean, Ms. Jurow both simplifies and intensifies her observations into schematic interpretations of landscape, filling sky and land with rich variations on a single dominant hue. Whereas the work of the original 'Trails' series had a quiet, consistently-applied color in a monochromatic palette and were done on easel-sized canvases, the new work is bolder and more energized. There is a much looser, expressionistic application of color and the choices of color are more dramatic and forceful - purples, turquoises and a bit of orange.
