Max in Ecuador

Monday, April 19, 2010. So I took a two week break from the blog during my spring vacation, and quite the vacation it was. For the first week my parents and brother came down during Isaac’s sprink break. My parents and I thought it was a fantastic week, Isaac may not exactly share the sentiment as he was sick for most of the week with altitude sickness and sinus trouble; Fanta in a glass bottle, essentially liquid gold, really makes up for a lot though, even altitude sickness. View from where we stayed).

Friday, March 19, 2010. Sorry for missing last week, I was on a comic book rough draft deadline. It seems that as a general rule of thumb, food is a third of the price it is in the US. Ride on the bus- .25 cents. Eat your hearts out Chicagoans. Movie- 3.00 to 5.00 dollars. Eggs- .10 cents apiece, we rarely buy a carton of a dozen. Bannanas- .5 cents apiece. A bottle of water- .30 cents. Fresh baked roll- .10 to 15 cents. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Beans, Corn, and Moscos. View my complete profile.

Max in Ecuador: Beans, Corn, and Moscos

http://www.maxschulzinecuador.blogspot.com/2010/03/beans-corn-and-moscos.html

Friday, March 26, 2010. Beans, Corn, and Moscos. This week I was lucky enough to spend a large amount of time in Lumbisi, the rural community about 20 minutes from where I live. Nelly allowed me to accompany her to her various plots of land. In her fields we picked plenty of beans and corn and fought of plenty of Moscos, the Ecuadorian equivalent of mosquitoes. No they're not Jelly Bellys, just really cool beans). For instance, to avoid erosion each stalk of corn gets its own mound of dirt so that the gr...

Max in Ecuador: Cuenca

http://www.maxschulzinecuador.blogspot.com/2010/03/cuenca.html

Monday, March 8, 2010. My group went to Cuenca for the weekend so I figured I’d wait. Before going to Cuenca my host family excitedly told me that Cuenca was a magical city where people sing when they talk and love to dance at all times of the day. And while Cuenca is a very modern city it has a feel more similar to a beach town than a large city—everyone and everything seemed very at ease. For the rest of Saturday we walked around and just enjoyed the beautiful historic section of Cuenca. Cuenca also ha...

Ding Ddongs and Poo Tales. November 9, 2009 at 1:12 am. So I guess this blogging thing is going to become somewhat regular… I hope that the like 3 people that actually read my posts continue to do so. I write ONLY for you. Ddong Chiem and some BDS. Begopah (I’m hungry). BUT, the most important Korean word that I have probably ever learned is…. 8221; Yes, it is extremely unpleasant, but it is quite a common practice. If I had to guess, I would say that type 3 seems the most normal type of poop. But I ...

August 12, 2010 at 12:16 am. So I wasn’t planning on posting, but I wanted to share this with you. I don’t know if you have seen this video before. But my cousin, Kai, just showed it to me today. You can watch this video first, then watch the second one. I know the subject is pretty serious and messed up, but just pay attention to when they get that guy’s account of what happened. People can make songs out of anything – and I love it. Entry filed under: Uncategorized. 2 Comments Add your own. Taking my s...

Archive for March, 2010. Some of Best Kids T.V. Shows. EVER. Yes I realize it has been nearly 2 weeks since my last post… Sorry. Don’t worry, I have pondered about this post for a little while. So without further ado… let’s go to a happy place:. You are sitting in front of the television, juice box in hand and PB and J stains on your shirt. Your eyes are glued to the colorful wonders being projected. A group of bad-guy-fighting people in skin-tight uniforms has never seemed so important. I sure hope so.

Archive for July, 2010. Oh Little Boy Singers…. I think I’m in a writing mood. Speaking of epidemics, I have to acknowledge Justin Bieber. This boy has exploded into the music scene. Really. I don’t know about you, but it took me by surprise. His debut single, One Time, was released in 2009. And his album, My World, (which went platinum) was the first ever to have 7 songs from a debut album to be in the Billboard Top 100 (according to Wikipedia. So you know it’s true). I had no idea. Watch it. Please.

8220;You’re…sort of beautiful”. July 2, 2010 at 2:52 pm. I thought it would only be appropriate for me to address an epidemic that has been sweeping the nation, and even the world. I am positive that everyone in America is aware of it. Except maybe the Amish. And it is probably one of the most controversial topics of this time. No, not healthcare policy or BP (jerks). There is one word that will promise to evoke either a sense of excitement or loathing inside of you… Twilight. But if you do that, it&#821...

This was when we called it television and it wasn’t watched on flat screen monitors, but on television sets. There was no such thing as HD, DVR or “bundles.” All you had to do to watch something was turn on “the box” (I wonder who came up with that? Set the channel and enjoy. People love TV….
